Max George has revealed he is back in hospital following an unexpected “issue” after undergoing major heart surgery, sharing a candid health update with fans on social media.
Max George, 37, has revealed that he is back in hospital due to an ‘issue’ following major heart surgery in a clip shared to Instagram on Friday
The The Wanted star, 37, took to Instagram on Friday to explain that he had returned to the same hospital where he previously underwent multiple heart procedures.
The Wanted singer was fitted with a pacemaker in December 2024 after his mum Babs realised he had ‘turned blue’ and insisted he should go to A&E
Max was fitted with a pacemaker in December 2024 after a frightening health scare, when his mother Babs noticed he had “turned blue” and urgently insisted he go to A&E. He later required a second procedure after doctors discovered a misplaced wire, and since then, he has been open with fans about his regular hospital check-ups.
Now, the singer has confirmed he was back once again — this time for precautionary scans.
He later had a second procedure to fix a misplaced wire. But now he has revealed that he has had to go back to the hospital for a scan
Posting a video to his Instagram Stories, Max was seen waiting outside an X-ray department. He simply captioned the clip: “Another scan…” before offering a more detailed update moments later.
Walking through the hospital corridors, he told followers:
“So I’m just at the hospital in the building where I had all my heart surgeries done. I can’t say it’s good to be back — because it’s not.”
He went on to explain the reason for his return:
“I’ve just had a scan done on my chest because I’ve had a bit of an issue with one of my lungs, apparently. Should be fine. It’s just a precaution.”
Attempting to reassure fans, Max added with a wry smile:
“Back in my old second home,” before signing off with a thumbs-up and wishing everyone a good weekend.
Despite the latest scare, those closest to Max say his recovery journey has brought new strength to his personal life — particularly his relationship with girlfriend Maisie Smith.
The former EastEnders actress, 24, recently revealed that she and Max are closer than ever, almost a year on from his life-saving operation. Speaking in a new interview, Maisie admitted that at this time last year, “no one knew what was going to happen” following his surgery.
Now, she says their bond has only deepened — and that she has “fallen in love with him all over again.”
The couple recently starred together in Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War Of The Worlds, playing husband and wife on stage in March.
Reflecting on Max’s recovery, Maisie previously told The Sun:
“He still has hard days and better days, but he’s definitely getting stronger again — and it’s nice to see him performing.”
She added:
“No one knew what was going to happen this time last year, so it’s really nice to see him doing what he was born to do.”
Last year, Max also completed the American leg of The Wanted’s 2.0 Tour alongside bandmate Siva Kaneswaran, marking a major milestone in his return to performing after his health ordeal.
For now, fans remain relieved that his latest hospital visit was described as a precaution — but his honesty continues to shine a light on the ongoing reality of recovery after serious heart surgery.
