Why are Aston Martin staff now so hesitant and reluctant to publicly discuss Lance Stroll? What has changed behind the scenes that’s making everyone stay silent? Discover the unexpected reasons causing this shift and what it might mean for the team’s future prospects in the racing world.

Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll has had a mixed start to the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Lance Stroll was one of the drivers to emerge from the chaos of the Australian Grand Prix with a handy haul of points.

He added to his tally at the following race in China before eventually finishing fifth during the Sprint Race in Miami following a slew of penalties.

However, since then, Stroll has failed to add to his tally as well as being forced to withdraw from the Spanish Grand Prix due to a recurrence of his wrist injury.

Stroll looked in intense pain after qualifying in Barcelona, but with Felipe Drugovich being readied for the Canadian Grand Prix, he made a miraculously quick recovery.

However, Stroll was reticent to answer too many questions about his injury during his pre-race press conference.

The Canadian exited qualifying in Q1 once again and never looked in contention to score points.

His teammate Fernando Alonso lamented his luck earlier in the season, but heads to the Austrian Grand Prix after securing back-to-back top 10 finishes.

Alonso and Stroll both have contracts for 2026, but that hasn’t stopped Aston Martin from testing the waters in the driver market.

George Russell has been linked with Aston Martin, but it doesn’t look like Stroll’s seat is in any immediate danger.

Aston Martin staff ‘reluctant’ to criticise Lance Stroll in public

Stroll may have more points than Alonso this season, but the Spaniard comes out on top in every other metric.

Fans were amazed when Alonso outqualified Stroll for a 22nd time in Canada, although the 11 places between their spots on the grid in Montreal was particularly stark.

A report from the German outlet Auto Motor und Sport has shared more details about Aston Martin’s feelings towards Stroll behind the scenes.

Stroll has never been the most outspoken driver and rarely provides a striking quote during his interviews.

The report states that ‘Aston Martin officials are understandably reluctant to criticise’ Stroll, particularly as his father Lawrence Stroll is the team’s chairman.

Aston Martin chief Mike Krack said at the Canadian Grand Prix when asked about the 26-year-old: “We see someone different in the debriefings or in daily interactions.

“That doesn’t fit the image from the outside at all.”

Timo Glock believes Lance Stroll ‘isn’t convincing enough’ to justify Aston Martin role

Speaking to Sky Germany, former F1 driver Timo Glock admitted he hadn’t been impressed by Stroll’s performances over the past few years.

He said: “Lance can drive. That’s why he eventually became Formula 3 European Champion. And he even secured a pole position.

“But we have 24 race weekends and if you look at the performance over the past few years, it hasn’t been convincing enough on average to take the team to the next step.”

Stroll, as Glock admits, has shown glimpses of his potential since making his Formula 1 debut in 2017.

However, the gulf between Stroll and Alonso will be a concern for team principal Andy Cowell.

Stroll was recently compared to Sergio Perez after his struggles up against Max Verstappen at Red Bull, a situation the Canadian will be desperate to avoid.
