For years, James Martin was adamant about one thing: marriage simply wasn’t for him.

After catering countless weddings, the  celebrity chef insisted he had no desire to ever walk down the aisle.

And yet — quietly, almost casually — everything appears to have changed.

This week, James’ stunning girlfriend Kim Johnson, 39, seemingly confirmed their engagement with just four words that sent fans into meltdown.

“So proud of my fiancé.”

A Post That Spoke Volumes

Kim shared a photo of one of James’ latest culinary creations on Instagram — an understated snap that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

But her caption told a very different story.

The word fiancé instantly set tongues wagging, fuelling reports that James, 53, proposed over Christmas after two years of dating — marking a complete U-turn from his long-held views on marriage.

From “Never” To “Forever”

Back in 2019, James was unequivocal when discussing the idea of marriage.

“Marriage doesn’t interest me in the slightest,” he said at the time. “I’ve catered for so many weddings. I admire people who do it, but I’m happy. I don’t need to spend £60,000 on a day.”

Fast forward to now, and the man who once dismissed wedding bells is reportedly planning a future with Kim — the woman many believe changed everything.

According to reports last month, James popped the question before gifting Kim a £150,000 Land Rover, said to be an extravagant engagement present.

If true, the gesture couldn’t be further from the man who once shrugged off the entire concept.

A Romance That Moved Fast

James and Kim’s relationship first came to light in April last year, when they were spotted shopping for jewellery at Tiffany & Co in Mayfair — an outing that raised eyebrows long before engagement rumours surfaced.

By October, the pair had taken another major step, with Kim moving into James’ country home in Hampshire.

Friends say the relationship has been “incredibly grounding” for the chef, who has endured a turbulent few years both personally and professionally.

Love After Loss

The engagement comes exactly two years after James’ split from long-term partner Louise Davies, following 12 years together.

The former couple met in 2011 on the set of Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and lived together at his Hampshire home before quietly parting ways in 2023.

At the time, a spokesperson confirmed they remained on good terms.

Kim, meanwhile, was previously married to businessman Arun Nayar — the ex-husband of Elizabeth Hurley — with the pair tying the knot in 2016 before divorcing a year later.

A New Chapter After Turbulence

James’ personal life has been anything but calm in recent years.

Last summer, he found himself at the centre of a bullying scandal after crew members on his ITV show accused him of intimidating behaviour — allegations that followed earlier concerns raised in 2018.

The chef later apologised, admitting he had been “acting emotionally” during a deeply difficult period that included the death of his grandfather, a traumatic home invasion, and a shock cancer diagnosis.

ITV confirmed it had spoken to James and said it would take a close interest in future filming involving the star.
