Ruth Langsford Finally Speaks Out on ‘Childhood Sweetheart’ Claims – As Eamonn Holmes Starts a New Chapter

Ruth Langsford has had enough of the rumours.

More than a year after confirming the end of her marriage to Eamonn Holmes, the Loose Women favourite, 65, has publicly shut down viral claims that she has secretly reunited with a “childhood sweetheart” – branding the story not only false, but deeply unsettling.

The speculation exploded online after a misleading image began circulating on Facebook, showing a woman said to be Ruth walking through a park with an unknown man under the dramatic caption: “The full story of heartbreak, closure and a love that came full circle.”

On Thursday’s episode of Loose Women, Ruth confronted the story head-on.

“Apparently I’ve got a new man,” she told the panel, gesturing to the image behind her.
“According to this article, I grew up in Belfast, met this man as a child, and now, all these years later, we’re back together. Which is complete nonsense. I didn’t even grow up in Belfast.”

She added simply:

“It’s terrible, isn’t it?”

Her co-host Jane Moore admitted the segment struck a nerve.
“We laugh, but people believe this stuff. That’s the scary part.”

Life After the Split

Ruth and Eamonn – who share son Jack – announced in May 2024 that they were ending their 14-year marriage, saying they had gone in “different directions” and were beginning divorce proceedings.

Eamonn later moved out of their Surrey home, and while the former This Morning power couple vowed to stay amicable, fans quickly noticed they were no longer appearing together on social media.

Since then, Eamonn has been photographed enjoying holidays with his new girlfriend, marriage counsellor Katie Alexander, fuelling further headlines – and, in some quarters, heartbreak for loyal viewers who once saw Ruth and Eamonn as television’s most solid couple.

“Fake Stories Hurt Real People”

Ruth’s decision to address the claims so directly appears to stem from concern that fabricated stories are now being treated as fact.

Friends of the presenter say she has received countless calls from people genuinely worried about her, after seeing the viral post.

“She doesn’t mind public interest,” one insider explained. “But when fake articles start rewriting your life, that’s when it crosses a line.”

Meanwhile, Eamonn Moves On

Eamonn, 65, has continued to appear publicly with Katie, despite chatter suggesting their relationship is under strain. She has recently dismissed those claims, telling friends the pair remain solid and devoted to one another.

Yet the contrast between his high-profile romance and Ruth’s more private approach has left fans divided – some praising Ruth’s dignity, others still hoping the former couple might one day reconcile.

For now, though, Ruth’s message is crystal clear: the childhood sweetheart story is fiction – and the reality is far less dramatic than the internet would like us to believe.
