Mick Schumacher is lobbying for a return to Formula 1 with Cadillac as early as 2026.

According to some sources, Mick Schumacher is reportedly lobbying intensely to return to Formula 1 with the future Cadillac team, which is set to enter in 2026.
A new seat in F1?
The son of the legendary seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher has been seeking to find a seat on the grid since his departure from Haas at the end of 2022. Since then, he has spent two seasons as a reserve driver at Mercedes before joining Alpine’s Endurance (WEC) program.
The arrival of Cadillac as the 11th team opens two new spots on the grid and restores hope to the German. According to F1.com, Mick Schumacher is actively pushing to join the Cadillac family in 2026.
The official F1 website mentions Mick Schumacher among the drivers considered by Cadillac, although he is described as being lower in the hierarchy of priorities. Experienced drivers Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas are reportedly at the top of the list, while Mick Schumacher, Zhou Guanyu, and Felipe Drugovich are also among the options being studied.
During his two seasons with Haas (2021–2022), Mick Schumacher scored 12 points in 44 Grand Prix. His only points finishes occurred consecutively at Silverstone and Spielberg in 2022, with his best performance being a 6th place finish at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Strategy change for Cadillac?
Cadillac initially intended to field an American driver alongside a more experienced driver, but this scenario now seems less and less likely for next year.
The experience has become an essential criterion for Cadillac, led by team principal Graeme Lowdon. That’s why Perez and Bottas are seriously considered and appear as favorites, but also why other names remain in contention, reports F1.com.
The American manufacturer is not rushing to announce its duo of drivers but would like to have at least one signed before the end of the summer, in order to participate in the development of the car.
Thus, discussions with the drivers should accelerate in the coming weeks as Cadillac fine-tunes its selection in view of its debut in Formula 1.
