Jennifer Lopez has been criticised over her American Music Awards performance. The singer appeared during the opening performance of the awards show in Las Vegas on Monday.

J-Lo performed a huge six minute medley of songs from some of the biggest nominees of the evening, including the likes of Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish, Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter and Texas Hold ‘Em by Beyonce.

During the performance, the singer left people cringing over the “disgusting” kisses she shared with both her male and female dancers. Some said she had gone “too far” by kissing her female dancer.

“Jennifer Lopez has lost the plot,” one wrote, whilst another added: “Why is Jennifer Lopez kissing everyone at the AMAs?” A third shared: “Just looked up from my phone and JENNIFER LOPEZ IS KISSING A GIRL?!?!”

Following her performance, she told fans at the awards and those watching from home: “I had to kick things off by turning it up to the biggest songs of the year and dancing my heart out for all of you, but tonight, the spotlight belongs to you, because this is the world’s largest fan-voted award show where you decide the winners.”

She later spoke to Extra about her performance, telling them: “There were a few spicy moments in there! It’s what the kids call going viral. I felt like it went really really well – it was perfect, it was fun …

“My favourite part of the show was the Janet Jackson part, and being able to say she was one of my biggest inspirations. There was a lot of beautiful moments tonight.”

Jennifer was also on hosting duties for the event, the first time she has fronted it in a decade – having originally hosted it back in 2015. Artist of The Year was won by singer Billie Eilish, who beat Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Morgan Wallen, Kendrick Lamar and Zack Bryan to be given the top prize of the night.

“This is so crazy. I feel speechless. I wish I could be there tonight,” she said in a video filmed in Europe, where she is currently on tour.

Jennifer used the AMAs to announce her residency in Las Vegas. Sharing her latest career venture, she said: “Jennifer Lopez: Up All Night Live in Las Vegas”, will take over The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for four nights in December and January.

“I’m doing a residency in Las Vegas! Join me for Up All Night Live In Las Vegas At The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Dec 30 – Jan 3, & select dates in March! Tickets on sale Friday, June 6 at 10 AM PT.”
