Inside Phil Collins’ health issues as star hospitalised and end-of-life care addressed!

He endures numerous health challenges

Rock legend Phil Collins is reportedly in hospital amid claims he may be receiving hospice care.

A representative for the Genesis star reportedly recently denied Phil, 74, was on his deathbed.

Instead, it was divulged that the In the Air Tonight hitmaker is currently in the hospital after undergoing knee surgery.

Phil Collins health update

Speculation about Phil’s health in recent days and weeks had led to increased concern for the Another Day in Paradise singer.

Back in 2022, drumming legend Phil reportedly revealed he was “very sick” and retired from live performances. It was reported he could “barely hold a drumstick”.

Phil is said to have told Mojo magazine, following Genesis’s final concert at London’s O2 Arena, that he was no longer “hungry for it any more”.

He said at the time: “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens, but I’m not hungry for it any more. The thing is, I’ve been sick – I mean very sick.”

Phil Collins hospitalisation

Phil has also endured a series of other health challenges, including nerve damage from a spinal injury sustained in 2007. It’s believed the injury concerns the vertebrae in his upper neck.

Phil also has acute pancreatitis and also has ‘foot drop’, which means he wears orthopaedic shoes.

However, recent false reports have reportedly been dismissed with Phil’s spokesperson said to have emphasised the star is not in end-of-life care. Nonetheless, it has been reported that it is on the record that Phil was hospitalised for a knee op.

The Sun also reports how Phil previously admitted he believed he had “used up my air miles”. He is said to have made the comments in a documentary after he performed in a wheelchair for the final Genesis gig.

‘A shock’

The documentary also featured Phil addressing how decades of playing the drums had affected him physically.

It was noted how his hands, feet and body absorbed the effects of high-intensity performances across hundreds of performances across the world.

Phil said: “If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I’ll have a crack of it. But I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles. It’s still kind of sinking in a bit.

I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.

“I’ve spent all my life playing drums. To be suddenly not be able to do that is a shock. If I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and not do anything.”

Phil, who has been married three times, is also a father of five. His children include actor Joely, 52; drummer Simon, 48; Emily in Paris star Lily, 36; drummer Nic, 24; and soccer player Mathew, 20.
