The 51-year-old TV presenter opened up about the health scare during an appearance on Good Morning Britain on Thursday, August 28, where he joined hosts Richard Madeley, 69, and Kate Garraway, 58, to promote his newest projects.
While discussing the upcoming series, Ben casually dropped the bombshell that filming had taken a dramatic turn.

As the title suggests, New Lives In The Wild follows individuals who have walked away from both the pressures and luxuries of modern life to live off-grid in remote locations. The Channel 5 programme has been running since 2013 and is currently airing its 20th series, with Ben recently confirming that a 21st season is also on the way.

Speaking candidly on the show, Ben explained that while many of the people he meets dream of freedom, the reality can be emotionally demanding.
“Many people find it difficult to escape their inner demons,” he said, adding that they often miss the “sociability” of more traditional life.
“When reality hits and they find themselves isolated, many people actually find that really, really challenging and difficult — particularly if they have children.”
The Most Emotional Episode Yet
The current series kicked off earlier this month with the story of former New York model Aleksandra Orbeck Nilssen, who abandoned her high-flying life in the Big Apple to move to Botswana.
However, Ben believes the episode airing on Thursday, August 28 — focusing on a British rice-grower living in Japan — may be the most emotional instalment viewers have seen so far.
Ben’s hospital revelation comes shortly after he shared a deeply personal confession about his mental health.
“A Storm. A Breakdown.”
In a heartfelt Instagram post earlier this year, the presenter revealed he had suffered what he described as a “mental health wobble”.
“A year ago I suffered a mental health wobble,” he wrote.
“An episode. A storm. A blip. I don’t know if there is a specific term for it, but it was basically a burnt out breakdown.
“I’ve been on quite a journey since. I’ve learned a lot about my neurological uniquenesses — and I’ve navigated the storm.”
With Ben now speaking more openly about both physical and mental health challenges, fans have rallied behind the presenter, praising his honesty and resilience as he continues to push himself in some of the world’s most extreme environments.
