Fred Vasseur has been urged by fans and experts alike to confront Lewis Hamilton and demand that he stop his ‘smug’ behaviour now that he’s joined Ferrari, as many believe his attitude is causing tension within the team and affecting their performance.

Lewis Hamilton endured his latest disappointing day at the office with Ferrari during the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix, as the seven-time F1 champion only took sixth place.

Ten races through his maiden campaign with the Scuderia, the 40-year-old is still yet to get a podium finish. Hamilton was also 40.084 seconds away from the podium places as Lando Norris crashed into Oscar Piastri in the Canadian GP, which promoted the Briton up from P7.

A 21.231s margin even separated Hamilton in P7 and his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in P6 prior to the safety car period Norris’ retirement from the Canadian GP delivered. Without the McLaren man’s error, Hamilton faced finishing a fifth race for Ferrari outside the top six.

Fred Vasseur urged to make Lewis Hamilton stop his ‘smug remarks’ on Ferrari’s radio

Hamilton is desperate for Ferrari to develop the SF-25 to help the Briton improve his results. He may soon see that wish granted, as well, as Ferrari plan to introduce their upgraded rear suspension at the Austrian Grand Prix on June 29, with a new floor also possibly on the way.

But his lack of results so far in the 2025 F1 season has also led to tension in the Scuderia’s ranks at times. Hamilton has regularly clashed with his race engineer, Riccardo Adami, since moving to Maranello ahead of the season and their latest flare-up came at the Canadian GP.

Hamilton accused Ferrari of ‘wasting’ his tyres during qualifying in Canada when Adami told the Stevenage-born star he was safe in Q1. Adami also saw Hamilton merit a grid penalty at the Monaco Grand Prix for impeding Max Verstappen after saying he was not on a push lap.

Ferrari’s dithering also saw Hamilton accuse Adami of having a ‘tea break’ during the Miami Grand Prix, as he waited to be let past by Leclerc. Now, their latest flashpoint in Canada has seen Christian Danner tell Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur to stop Hamilton’s ‘smug remarks’.

Danner told Motorsport Magazin: “Well, if I were [the] team boss, I’d say, ‘Listen up, guys, I don’t want to hear any more of these arguments and smug remarks. That’s it. Order’.

Christian Danner accuses Charles Leclerc of making ‘insane’ comments on Ferrari’s radio in Canada

Hamilton is not the only Ferrari driver whose comments over the team’s radio took Danner’s attention at last weekend’s Canadian GP, however, as the former Arrows F1 driver also found Leclerc’s remarks ‘insane’. The Monegasque also clashed with his race engineer in Montreal.

Danner added: “You simply make a fool of yourself if you constantly talk past each other. The Leclerc incident with the engineer was insane.”

Leclerc disagreed with Ferrari’s Canadian GP strategy, having started the race on a set of the hard compound C4 Pirelli tyres after a poor qualifying saw the 27-year-old start from just P8 on the grid. But while he wanted to try a one-stop strategy, Ferrari stuck with a two-stopper.

It would not have helped his race had Ferrari accepted Leclerc’s request, though. While Haas ace Esteban Ocon improved from P14 on the grid to score two points with P9 in Montreal by only pitting once, the Frenchman benefited after his rivals pitted into traffic unlike Leclerc’s.
