Pauline Quirke’s son, Charlie Quirke, has completed an extraordinary five-day Trek For A Cure — raising an astounding £177,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK. His mission, rooted in love, grief, and determination, ended on Friday as he crossed the finish line in Buckinghamshire to applause, tears, and national admiration.
Charlie, 33, undertook the challenge after his mother — Birds Of A Feather legend Pauline Quirke — was diagnosed with dementia in 2021. The actress, adored for her role as Sharon Theodopolopodous, stepped back from all professional and commercial duties earlier this year, prompting her son to honour her life in a way that was deeply personal.
A Journey Through His Mother’s Life
In a symbolic tribute, Charlie retraced key moments from Pauline’s past, walking through the places that shaped her:
her former schools,
the theatres where she built her craft,
and the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts, which inspired generations of young performers.
Each stop carried memories, emotion, and a reminder of the vibrant, passionate career that dementia now threatens to dim.
Famous Faces Walked Beside Him
Charlie’s journey captured the hearts of the public and of many celebrities. Actors Mathew Baynton and Perry Benson joined him for parts of the trek, adding humour and warmth along the way. For the final, emotional stretch, he was accompanied by TV favourite Lorraine Kelly, who praised his courage and devotion.
“I Can’t Thank People Enough”
Overwhelmed by the outpouring of support, Charlie shared his heartfelt gratitude:
“I can’t thank people enough. The love from people all over the country has meant everything — from those who joined me, messaged me, or stopped me in the street to thank me for doing this.”
He added:
“I’m blown away by how much we’ve raised for Alzheimer’s Research UK. We’ve done this to find a cure, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has got behind our family.”
A Son’s Love, a Nation’s Support
What began as a personal tribute has become a powerful national moment — a reminder of the millions affected by dementia, and of the extraordinary acts of love families continue to show
.
Charlie’s Trek For A Cure wasn’t just a fundraiser.
It was a walk through memory, motherhood, and hope — and a promise that Pauline’s legacy will continue to shine, even as she steps away from the spotlight.
