GB NEWS IN CHAOS: ON-AIR MELTDOWN EXPOSED! SACKED HOST SUES FOR ‘RACISM’ CLAIMING ‘FREE SPEECH’ HYPOCRISY AFTER BRAVERMAN SLUR! IS THIS THE END OF BRITAIN’S EDGIEST NEWS CHANNEL AMIDST ALLEGATIONS OF DOUBLE STANDARDS AND PRODUCTION NIGHTMARES?

GB News, the self-proclaimed “home of free speech,” finds itself embroiled in a fresh storm of controversy, facing a high-stakes lawsuit for racism and unfair dismissal from one of its former star presenters. This dramatic legal battle unfolds just as the channel is reeling from an astonishing on-air meltdown by a senior journalist, raising serious questions about the network’s internal stability, its commitment to its founding principles, and its very future.

At the heart of the legal dispute is Albie Amankona, a charismatic conservative known for his anti-racism advocacy, whom sources describe as “incredibly talented” and even a potential “prime minister one day.” Amankona, who presented the channel’s flagship Saturday night show, The Saturday 5, was sensationally sacked after a heated exchange during a live broadcast.

The Braverman Storm: Racism Accusation Rocks Live TV

The explosive moment occurred when Amankona, during a discussion hosted by the now-departed Darren Grimes, fiercely accused former Home Secretary Suella Braverman of being “racist and a thoroughly bigoted woman.” The accusation stemmed from Braverman’s controversial comments regarding “British Pakistani men” and their “problem with grooming,” which Amankona labelled “a racist comment.”

The on-air clash was immediate and intense. “You cannot sit on this show and call someone a racist,” the host interjected, attempting to shut down the escalating debate. But Amankona stood firm, asserting his belief that “people like that should not be in the Conservative Party.”

Following the broadcast, the fallout was swift and decisive. Braverman lodged a complaint with the station, and Amankona was presented with a stark ultimatum: apologize or be fired. He refused, and true to the station’s word, he was gone.

Free Speech Hypocrisy? Sacked Host Fights Back

Now, Amankona is fighting back. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he announced his legal action against “the so-called home of free speech,” declaring: “Look at what others on that channel have said and how they’ve been treated then look at what I said and how I was treated. The difference is like night and day. If you claim to stand for freedom of speech, fairness and equal treatment, you should be held to your word. GB News must be held accountable.”

Amankona has even produced “receipts” – video evidence of a white presenter on GB News making similar accusations of bigotry and racism against a left-wing figure, Diane Abbott, without facing any reprimand. “She is a bigot, she… is what a bigot looks like,” the clip shows another host stating, drawing a stark contrast to Amankona’s swift dismissal. He argues that this disparity in treatment points to a deeply troubling double standard, particularly concerning how “black on air members of staff” are treated differently from their “white on air members of staff.”

This legal challenge comes as a profound test for GB News, a channel launched with the promise of “edgy” content and a commitment to “doing things differently.” Critics of Amankona’s sacking argue that for a “free speech channel,” such “knee-jerk reactions of constantly sacking people just go against everything that the station was meant to be about.” Indeed, the question is being forcefully posed: “If you claim to stand for freedom of speech… you should be held to your word. GB News must be held accountable.”

The Divide: Loyalty, Lawsuits, and the ‘Ofcom Communists’

Amankona’s legal action has predictably divided opinion across the political spectrum. Some, like the “stark naked brief” on X, mock his claim of racism, arguing he “fails to do his research… and then cries racism,” especially given Baroness Casey’s recent report confirming the disproportionate involvement of Pakistani men in grooming gangs. They suggest his actions are more “negligent and/or incompetent” than indicative of racial discrimination. The involvement of Jolyon Maugham’s Good Law Project in supporting Amankona’s case has also raised eyebrows in certain circles.

However, others, including former GB News launch presenter Alex Phillips, express deep concern. While acknowledging Amankona’s sometimes “nasty” accusations of racism against other public figures (including Phillips herself), the fundamental question remains: should GB News be sacking presenters for airing controversial opinions, even those deemed offensive or legally precarious? “I really worry about GB News just sacking people because they say something that goes against the ideology of the channel,” states Phillips, concluding pointedly: “That is not a free speech channel, is it?”

The channel’s defenders, like regular contributor Suzanne Evans, highlight the ever-present threat of Ofcom, the media regulator often dubbed the “Ofcom communists” by some. Evans acknowledges that Ofcom “watches GB News much more closely than it does some of the other channels,” and that “a lobby group… is determined to have GB News taken off air and will write thousands of letters at the tiniest little hint of any kind of breach of the rules.” This constant scrutiny, she argues, forces contributors to be “a little bit careful” and avoid saying anything “too outrageous” that could land the channel “in massive amounts of hot water,” such as calling someone a racist without demonstrable proof.

GB News, however, is not backing down. A spokesperson for the channel has stated: “Mr Amankona’s claim is misconceived, without merit and being robustly defended.” This signals that the legal battle is likely headed for an employment tribunal, where the station’s commitment to “free speech” will be put under an intense microscope.

Production Meltdown: On-Air Chaos Exposes Deeper Rifts

Adding to the broadcaster’s woes, a shocking on-air meltdown by its respected Home and Security Editor, Mark White, exposed glaring technological and production failures within the channel. During a live breaking news report on Iranian strikes against US air bases, White visibly struggled, asking for his face to be removed from the screen while he attempted to read crucial information. The situation escalated when his microphone was apparently left on after he thought he was off-air, capturing his frustrated rant at the production team.

“I don’t know if you heard at the end but Mark White was very angry,” observed one host, expressing sympathy for White. “He’s such a brilliant, capable journalist… that looks like a man who doesn’t really want to be working for that company much anymore.”

This incident, described as a public “humiliation,” highlights deeper internal rifts. Some speculate that “a lot of the people who work behind the scenes, especially the production guys, actually hate everything GB News is about,” suggesting a deliberate attempt to sabotage on-air talent. The embarrassing technical glitches, four years into the channel’s operation, raise serious questions about its professional standards and its ability to support its journalists, leaving them “constantly being let down by the technology and the production teams.”

A Precarious Future?

As GB News battles a high-profile racism lawsuit, faces accusations of free speech hypocrisy, and grapples with internal production chaos, its future appears increasingly precarious. The channel’s once-unapologetic stance on robust debate is being questioned, and its very identity as a platform for diverse, unfiltered voices is under threat. Whether it can weather this storm and re-establish its credibility remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the fight for its soul is far from over.
