HIGHLIGHTS

Whoopi Goldberg’s decision not to speculate about Kate Middleton’s health was influenced by her own experience with rumors and gossip.
The co-hosts of The View, including Goldberg, regretted making jokes about Middleton before her cancer diagnosis.
Kate Middleton underwent surgery and started chemotherapy for cancer.

The co-hosts on The View rarely choose not to share their opinions. Joy Behar was upset when Donald Trump won in 2016, and The View cast members have gotten into screaming matches. But even though they are a chatty group that opens up about pretty much everything, there are some topics that not everyone wants to talk about on air.

Before Kate Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis, many people tried to guess why she hadn’t been seen in public. That included The View co-hosts, who laughed about what could be going on. Whoopi Goldberg, however, didn’t want to say anything. In this article, we’ll take a look at why Goldberg chose not to speculate about Middleton. We’ll also look at what has been revealed about Middleton’s cancer journey.

Why Whoopi Goldberg Wouldn’t Talk About Conspiracy Theories Before Kate Middleton’s Cancer Diagnosis

In March 2024, The View co-hosts discussed some Kate Middleton conspiracy theories, but Whoopi Goldberg didn’t want to participate. According to Sky News Australia, Goldberg addressed theories about Middleton and said it was wrong to talk about Middleton because children are involved. The actress said:

“You haven’t had this done to you. It’s our fault because we bought into this. When you buy into this stuff, when they start doing it to your family or your kids, it’s not cute. It’s not fun, and it really irritates me.”

There is likely another reason why the actress didn’t want to guess about what happened to the Princess of Wales: because she herself has been the subject of speculation and rumors. According to The Independent, when Goldberg didn’t film The View’s season 27 premiere because she had COVID-19, people came up with conspiracy theories that she was in Italy or Burning Man. She must feel bad for Middleton because she knows how terrible it feels to hear gossip.

Johnny Galecki’s interview on The View took a very uncomfortable twist, but The Big Bang Theory actor handled it with class.

Now that people know that Kate Middleton has cancer, they likely agree with Whoopi Goldberg’s decision to stay quiet about what could have happened to her. Every time her co-hosts on The View brought up the Princess of Wales, Goldberg maintained that they shouldn’t talk about it.

According to The New York Post, when a photo of Kate Middleton was shared online before she explained that she was sick, The View co-hosts called her “Bigfoot.” Goldberg said:

“I did try to explain to you that this is not something they’re worried about over in London. They’re not worried about it. We’re the only ones who do this.

Whoopi Goldberg even said that people shouldn’t have laughed at Kate Middleton’s Photoshopped image. According to Page Six, she said, “I’m sorry, I know very few people who don’t manipulate their own photos. I mean all your gotta do is swipe. Those editors swipe, God knows people look how those photos look.

After the Princess of Wales explained that she had been diagnosed with cancer, the hosts of The View felt bad about their comments about Middleton. Entertainment Weekly reported that Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines said that they were wrong to talk about Middleton so much. They also said that Whoopi Goldberg was right. Ana Navarro said on The View:

Meghan McCain did not disclose the entire truth behind her decision to walk away from The View.

“When Whoopi Goldberg tells me to mind my own d*mn business, I will mind my own d*mn business from now on.”

The others felt similarly about the sad situation. Haines and Griffin both said that it’s wrong to judge someone because they could be suffering. Haines said, “You just never know what someone is going through.” Griffin added that “every person, whether they’re a princess, somebody in a high-privileged position, or just the person next to you, is dealing with personal struggles that we don’t know about.”

Inside Kate Middleton’s Cancer Diagnosis

At the time of this writing, Kate Middleton hasn’t said what kind of cancer she has or what her treatment plan is, and it’s unclear if she will ever make that information public. However, a few details have come out since her video announcement on March 22nd, 2024.

According to Town and Country Magazine, there are some important dates related to Kate Middleton’s cancer journey that fans should know about. She had abdominal surgery on January 16th, 2024 at the London Clinic, and after 13 days, she went home. While of course it was very emotional for the Princess of Wales to share such sad news, a spokesperson for the royals explained that Middleton was happy with the compassionate reaction that she received from people.

Kate Middleton angry and yelling

Princess Kate Middleton has done things a little differently when it comes to her biggest controversies.

According to Global News, the spokesperson said, “The prince and princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the U.K., across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message. They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.”
