Co-ordinating queens: When Kate and Camilla got the Trooping the Colour style memo and were always in sync!

Held in honour of the reigning sovereign’s birthday, the annual Trooping the Colour event has seen many colourful moments, particularly the fashion choices of Kate and Camilla.

Over the years, these two royal icons have repeatedly chosen to wear outfits in strikingly similar colours and styles.

The fashion twinning hasn’t stopped at their clothes, with accessories including hats and jewellery also showing a remarkable alignment.

It was only last year, when the pair stepped into their respective roles of Queen Consort and the Princess of Wales after the death of Queen Elizabeth, that their outfits were contrasting.

But read on to see how, since Kate’s debut Trooping the Colour in 2011, she and Camilla have regularly been on the same fashion page.

For her debut Trooping the Colour in 2011, the newlywed Duchess of Cambridge dressed in a cream double-breasted coat by Alexander McQueen.

She paired the outfit with a contrasting black Sylvia Fletcher for Lock & Co hat.

Camilla opted for a similarly structured cream outfit, complemented by the Philip Treacy wide-brimmed hat which she wore to her civil wedding ceremony in 2005.

Their coordinated appearance was subtle yet significant, marking the start of their fashion alignment.

2012

Another Trooping the Colour and another chance to coordinate. This time the royal pair opted for a light blue colour palette.

Kate matched her Jane Corbett millinery with a floral embroidered bespoke Erdem dress.

Camilla chose a slightly darker blue ensemble by Anna Valentine, which was printed in a similar silver floral pattern.

Kate wore a recycled coat dress by Alexander McQueen that she previously wore at Princess Charlotte’s christening.

Camilla’s coat was layered over a cream dress. Both royals wore similar hats with delicate floral accents which completed their individual yet harmonious styles.

2023

Last year marked a historic moment for Kate and Camilla as they assumed their new roles as Princess of Wales and Queen Consort, respectively.

Their Trooping the Colour outfits were a poignant nod to the past while embracing their future responsibilities.

Camilla paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II by wearing a military-inspired ensemble reminiscent of the late Queen’s iconic look in 1964.
