Ruth Langsford on sensational return to This Morning after Eamonn Holmes’ bitter feud with ITV

Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford doesn’t need Eamonn Holmes’ ‘permission to do anything’, including returning to ITV show This Morning without her husband by her side

Ruth Langsford says she could return to This Morning and wouldn’t need husband Eamonn Holmes’ permission.

The pair used to host the show every Friday for 15 years but were axed leading to Eamonn criticising the ITV show repeatedly in the media. He also didn’t hold back in his criticism of Phillip Schofield and how his exit was handled. But by contrast Ruth returned for a week on This Morning with Rylan Clark and recent reports even said she was in talks for a full time comeback.

Speaking in Woman&Home, Ruth said: “I love This Morning but reports that ITV have recently asked me back aren’t true. I laughed when I saw that report. I have no idea where these things come from. It’s like when people write a nasty comment on my Instagram, I find it amusing.

“If they asked me, I would certainly consider it. I did a week with Rylan last year and I wasn’t torn because of Eamonn’s situation [turning his back on ITV]. Eamonn has left ITV, it’s done and dusted. He’s got another job, which he loves. Also, I don’t have to ask Eamonn’s permission to do anything, or for him me, so if ITV said, ‘Would you come and do a week on This Morning?’ and if I was free and it was with the right person, I probably would do it.”

In the interview for the December issues of the magazine, which features a Christmas theme, Ruth also says she would love a Sunday night chat show. Discussing her ambitions, she said: “Do I want a prime-time Sunday night chat show? Of course! I’m always ambitious. I’m not chasing jobs but I set my own standards. I want my clothing range to do well; I put the hours in, I do my research, I have a good team, I turn up on time and work hard. I’m very much a team player. I’m not a leader, but I like bouncing ideas.

“In television, age is not always a positive [for a woman]. Loose Women is fantastic and thank God for it, but often your age can be a negative in TV. You are at the mercy of programme controllers. You can have the best agent in the world and be – in your opinion – the best presenter ever, but if the person at the top of the chain doesn’t want to use you, you don’t get used.”

She also spoke about trying to “embrace ageing”. The 63-year-old explained: I’m trying to embrace ageing and not let it frighten me. You can become too cautious and think, ‘Ooh, I’d better not do that because of my age.’ I’m not suddenly going to go skydiving, I’m just trying to embrace the life I have.

“I love working but the older I get, the longer hours take more of a toll, so I try to balance that by eating well, walking and getting fresh air. I’m 63, pretty fit and healthy, but I look at my mum, then I look at Eamonn, who’s had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is, being able to move is and looking after yourself.”

Eamonn Holmes on GB News
Eamonn has let rip on ITV several times since leaving the channel
Ruth’s husband Eamonn hasn’t been shy sharing his thoughts on on ITV and his former colleagues since leaving the channel in 2021 – taking aim at This Morning’s press office and the ITV show’s former host Schofield.

Eamonn, 62, co-hosted the Friday instalment of This Morning for 15 years with Ruth, 61, before they were replaced on the ITV show by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary. Eamonn has since gone to to join GB News, presenting the channel’s breakfast show alongside co-host Isabel Webster.

The Irish journalist branded the ITV press office ‘Ministry of Lies’ in July 2022, after scooping his first major award since making the switch from ITV to GB News. During his acceptance speech at the Tric Awards, Eamonn gave a warning to Good Morning Britain – telling the ITV show he and GB News were “coming for them” in the ratings war.

Eamonn beat Stephen Dixon, Victoria Derbyshire and Clive Myrie to win the New Presenter honour at the Tric Awards last year and celebrated his success and set the record straight about a few things regarding his ITV exit when chatting with the Mirror and other press after collecting his award.

“You wouldn’t be doing what you’re doing if you don’t think you’re the best with what you’re doing,” Eamonn stated when quizzed about his ratings war promise to Good Morning Britain. When probed about how wife Ruth feels about his previous comments regarding ITV following his exit, Eamonn was quick to share how he really feels.

“I haven’t been slagging off This Morning. I’m telling the truth about ITV,” he hit back with when asked how Ruth feels about him “slagging off ITV.” “I haven’t been slagging them off. ITV have been telling lies about me. They’ve been telling lies about me. I’m just putting the record straight, he continued.Eamonn didn’t stop there, going on to declare: “The Ministry of Lies, their press office, which chunder out there the same. The point is I did not resign from ITV. ITV resigned from me. And I never received a single explanation once why they wanted rid of me. And also, the sort of stuff that comes out – ‘Eamonn believes he’s male pale and stale,’ doesn’t look like it does it. Eamonn never once said that. ITV press office said that.”
