Prince William’s ‘fave’ 11p breakfast juice cuts cholesterol and removes toxins

The Royal could enjoy anything he wishes – but opts for a simple superfood juice in the morning

Prince William’s diet choices often attract interest, as people wonder what it must be like to eat like royalty. It turns out that most people worldwide start their days in a very similar way: with a glass of fruit juice.

The heir to the British throne apparently pairs his morning meal with a refreshing glass of apple juice, according to The Royal Family Channel on YouTube. This goes alongside some very basic staples, including two eggs, wholemeal toast with butter and a traditional cup of tea.

You can pick up apple juice in almost every supermarket you visit, and it’s not bank-breaking either. Aldi sells a £1.09 carton that contains a litre of the juice – which works out at about 10 small glasses per pack, costing roughly 11p per drink.

Unsurprisingly, the health-conscious royal opts for this nutritious start to his days. Apple juice is packed with benefits that go beyond its taste.

As apples are mostly water-based, drinking their juice is a great way to hydrate. Apple juice is 88% water and is easy to consume if you are prone to dehydration or just generally feel a little poorly.

Beyond just being a refreshing beverage to taste, apple juice gets to work inside your body as well. For example, apples and their juice contain compounds that may help slow down the process that leads to heart disease.

But, according to a Healthline report, the majority of these compounds are in the apple peel. Some are still present when juiced. One of these compounds is called polyphenol, which may prevent LDL (bad cholesterol) from running rampant in your bloodstream and arteries.

Having elevated levels of LDL has been proven to heighten your risk of heart disease, strokes and heart attacks. High cholesterol doesn’t usually present any symptoms, especially in its early stages, which is why it is often known as a ‘silent killer’. The only way to check if you have it is by having a blood test.

One study found that when healthy adults drank 375ml of clear apple juice daily over a six-week period, their LDL (bad) cholesterol was 20% more resistant compared to the start of the study. Another piece of research found a similar benefit in women and the level of antioxidants in their blood after drinking apple juice.

Other benefits of apple juice:

Apple juice contains nutrients that may help protect against Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Apple juice contains fibre, which can help with digestion and regulate bowel movements.

Apple juice contains antioxidants that may help protect against age-related eye disorders. It is also rich in malic acid, which may help the liver remove toxins from the body.

As apple juice contains fibre, it can help you feel full for longer and potentially lose weight. Apple juice also contains antioxidants that may help protect against cancer.

Experts have found several benefits to apple juice – but there are some downsides, too. Many researchers have concluded that eating a raw apple is always a better choice as the juicing process is known to strip away some of the benefits.

Also, as apple juice is quite high in sugar, people should consume it in moderation to avoid potential weight gain. On top of this, you should always consider having a quick brush of your teeth after a glass of fruit juice.

Experts claim there is a clear link between drinking fruit juice and tooth decay. This is likely due to the sugars in the juice, which can erode tooth enamel. The longer your teeth are exposed to sugar, the more likely you’ll get cavities.
