A royal commentator pointed to one particularly awkward moment in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent trip to Nigeria that stood out.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were forced to sit through one particularly cringeworthy moment during their recent trip to Nigeria, and royal commentators have been quick to mock the awkwardness.
While on their visit, part of wider celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, the couple had to sit through a ceremony in which the national anthem was played.
The Mail on Sunday’s Editor at Large Charlotte Griffiths called the whole thing a “farce”, but appreciated the good laugh that moment gave her.
Griffiths noted how the Sussexes sat awkwardly while the music played, staring straight ahead rather poker-faced.
She told GB News: “It’s just a farce. But at least it has given us some laughs because that clip of them staring straight ahead during the national anthem is just hilarious.”

The couple’s tour of Nigeria involved visiting the country’s military headquarters, meeting charity organisations and politicians, and promoting the Invictus Games.
They also visited a school for a mental health event and met wounded Nigerian soldiers after being invited by the country’s highest-ranking military official, Christopher Musa.
Their fans were quick to compare the visit to a royal tour, but Griffiths fumed at the idea of this, slamming the pair for merely “cosplaying royals”.
She said: “They’re cosplaying how to be royal and it was also a fashion show, as far as I can tell. There was one event where Meghan changed halfway through the event. She just rushed off to a side door to change.
