Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘invited to Ghana’ after overwhelming success in Nigeria

The West African country’s officials and leading icons are very keen for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to visit after their ‘success’ in their neighbouring country Nigeria, say sources

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be invited to Ghana after their ‘triumph’ on their high-profile trip to Nigeria, according to sources.

The West African country’s officials and leading icons are keen for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to visit after their ‘success’ in their neighbouring country Nigeria, sources exclusively tell the Mirror. Insiders say the country’s leading bigwigs and artistic influencers are keen for the Sussexes to fly to Accra, the capital of Ghana that was so loved by Harry’s late Grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, and they will pull out all the stops to make them feel at home.

A source said: “There is already a lot of talk and excitement in Ghana, everyone is so keen for Harry and Meghan to come and experience the great culture and warmth. Several top names have already visited Ghana in recent years from Ed Sheeran, Naomi Campbell and One Direction’s Liam Payne. Idris Elba, who DJ’d at Harry and Meghan’s wedding is a regular too, he is part-Ghanaian and loves spending time ‘back home.'”

The source continued: “Harry certainly won’t be short of people to show him around and they will certainly roll out the red carpet for him, drafting in some of the finest Afro-beats performers to welcome him and his family. So perhaps it is only a matter of time before Harry and Meghan come out, and sample the famous jollof rice!”

The Mirror has contacted Prince Harry’s representatives for comment.

The invite follows the pair’s successful tour of Nigeria where they supported their “Giants of Africa” programming, including an announcement that they plan to expand their efforts by providing “an additional adaptive court and accessible sport for the community of Abuja.”

Meghan and Harry hosted a basketball clinic while they were there. “The Duke took to the courts to participate in an array of fun ball bouncing drills. The day was filled with sports, laughter, and meaningful conversation,” the site explained.

The duo gave fans a glimpse of what happened behind-the-scenes of their Nigeria visit. In a stunning moment, Meghan came over all emotional when she was presented a very special gift for Archie and Lilibet. She had earlier said how much she missed not being with them for Mother’s Day so it was even more poignant.

During their high-profile visit to the African continent, we can reveal the Duchess of Sussex was left speechless by a gesture from young Grace Busari, 13. Meghan was overwhelmed when she was presented a pair of stunning hand-stitched teddy bears from 13-year-old Grace, daughter of CNN Nigeria Bureau chief and Senior Editor invited to join Meghan and Harry on their visit.

The cuddly toys from Grace’s line @graceteddies, made from traditional African print material, almost reduced Meghan to tears as she grabbed Stephanie, Grace’s proud mum for a hug. Stephanie, who was part of the Women in Business conference Meghan attended, opened up about the groundbreaking trip. She said: “Wow! That was the weekend that was! Flying to Abuja to cover the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit, I truly didn’t know what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised. They are fun, caring, loved up, compassionate, total naturals with a crowd. To see Harry sitting on the floor to play volleyball with disabled servicemen was something and he showed such compassion too during his hospital visit to Kaduna.

“It was a private visit but looked like a royal tour in all but name! So happy that Harry and Meghan visited Nigeria to shine a spotlight on the injured servicemen and women, Invictus Games and mental health — and to dispel a few myths about Nigeria being a dangerous place! Also wonderful to see Meghan celebrated and welcomed as per Naija girl! Welcome Omowale Ada Mazi Adetokunbo Amira. (Just a few of the names she has received while here!)”
