Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have previously revealed their firstborn son, Prince Archie’s first words – and one of them was quite emotional for the duke. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Prince Archie Harrison of Sussex, was born on May 6, 2019, in London.

He only spent a few months in England before his parents quit their royal duties and shipped the entire family to California in the US in early 2020.

Since then, he has been residing in Montecito with his parents and his younger sister, Princess Lilibet, three, away from the public gaze.

But even though details about Archie’s life are kept to a minimum, Harry and Meghan have shared little snippets of his life in interviews and their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, including what his first words were

In February 2021, Harry proudly revealed his son’s first word was “crocodile” while speaking on James Corden’s The Late Late Show.

He said: “My son is now over a year and a half, he is hysterical, he’s got the most amazing personality, he’s already putting two, three words together, he’s already singing songs. His first word was ‘crocodile’, three syllables.”

In March of the same year, the couple made their infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, when they revealed bombshell claims about the Royal Family.

But they also revealed another one of Archie’s favourite words at the time – “hydrate”. During the interview, Harry was talking about his new life in California and said: “I guess, the highlight for me is sticking him on the back of the bicycle in his little baby seat and taking him on these bike rides, which is something I was never able to do when I was young.

“I can see him on the back, and he’s got his arms out. And he’s like ‘whoo’ chatting, chatting, chatting; going, ‘Palm tree, house’ and all this sort of stuff.”

Then Oprah asked: “What’s his new favourite word now?” to which Meghan replied: “Oh, my gosh. He’s on a roll. In the past couple weeks, it has been ‘hydrate’ which is just hysterical.”

Harry added: “But, also, whenever everyone leaves the house, he’s like, ‘drive safe’.” Two months later, in May, Harry appeared on the fifth episode of his mental health documentary series with Oprah Winfrey on Apple TV, The Me You Can’t See.

He revealed that his son had learned the word “grandma” because of a picture of his mother, the late Princess Diana, in the nursery of their home and that it had made him “sad”.

The duke said: “I got a photo up in his nursery and it was one of the first words that he said, apart from ‘mama’, ‘papa’ it was then ‘grandma’ – Grandma Diana.

“It’s the sweetest thing, but at the same time it makes me really sad, because she should be here.”
