Loose Women’s Katie Piper says ‘the wrong people suffer’ amid London transport strikes

Loose Women star Katie Piper has shed light on those who are going to ‘suffer’ the most from the current transport strikes across the UK

Katie Piper has shared her thoughts on the current transport strikes in London, saying that ‘the wrong people suffer’ the consequences.

The Loose Women star, 38, shared her sympathies with the hard-working London railway staff during Monday’s instalment of the ITV panel show, however, the author and TV presenter also shed light on the domino effect which the strikes are set to bring about.

It comes as Rail and Tube staff across are expected to strike in Britain’s most widespread industrial action this century, reducing services by around 80 per cent.

The strikes, which will take place in the coming week, will be in protest of working conditions, redundancies and pensions.

People are being advised not to travel on strike days, and they have also been warned that services will be disrupted for the rest of the week.

In response to the strikes, the Loose Women panel shared their thoughts and opinions about the millions of people who will be effected over the next week – with Katie shedding light on those who are in need of medical treatments who may not be able to travel to hospitals.

The proud mum explained that there are some cancer-striken patients who may not be able to attend their chemotherapy or radiotherapy appointments this week due to the strikes, and that this could in-turn have a drastic effect on their health.

“I think it’s the wrong people that end up getting punished and it’s the wrong people who have to suffer,” Katie told.

“You know, we’re talking about sick people and sick relatives. I have sympathy for the strikers – I think their wages aren’t really effecting the cost of living now and I think that it sometimes takes a strike and a crisis to move forward and implement change.

“But, then the wrong people suffer. So, I don’t know if anyone wins from this.”

“Completely back what Katie Piper has said. The wrong people suffer and it’s simply not fair,” one tweeted.

“I never really thought about the sick people who need to travel to appointments. One week off from their treatment could mean life or death for them,” another echoed.

Meanwhile, a third penned: “I feel bad for the strikers but equally as bad for this who literally rely on public transport. People cannot afford to just book taxi cabs anymore. The cost of living is almost impossible these days.”
