Loose Women star ‘no plans to go back’ to ITV show ahead of 25th anniversary

A fan favourite on Loose Women has reportedly quit the ITV daytime show with a source saying there’s no ‘discussion with a regards to their return whatsoever’

One of the stars of Loose Women has quit the show with “no plans to go back”, according to reports.

Jane McDonald, 60, left her role as a panellist on the ITV show in 2014 after enjoying a successful 10-year tenure on the ITV daytime programme and was rumoured to be coming back for Loose Women’s 25th anniversary in September. However, it’s now been claimed the much-loved singer from Wakefield won’t be returning to the studio anytime soon.

Speaking about getting her back on the daytime show, which is hosted by presenters, including Kaye Adams and Ruth Langsford, a source said: “In September, Loose Women will celebrate 25 years on air, a feat nobody, especially the critics, thought they could achieve.”

They added: “But they have proved everybody wrong and bosses want to go all-out with the celebrations, including bringing back some Loose Women legends. And top of the list is Jane McDonald. For many, she is the ultimate Loose Woman and they will do anything to make sure she’s involved,” reports Bella magazine.

However, according to Entertainment Daily, a spokesperson for Jane shut down the rumours, saying: “There are no discussions taking place with regards to Jane returning to Loose Women whatsoever. She always thoroughly enjoys going back as a guest and catching up with the ladies but there’s no plans to go back as a panellist.” When contacted by the Mirror, a spokesperson for Jane confirmed this comment was “accurate”.

Jane, whose eagerly-awaited All My love tour starts in October, made her last appearance on Loose Women in September 2023 as a guest. Speaking about her departure from the much-loved show when she left as panellist back in 2014, she said: “It’s easy to keep doing something safe, but I’m a singer. It’s been an incredible ten years and I’ve loved every minute of it.”

The Cruise star has achieved huge successes in her career as a television personality, but has sadly been much less fortunate in her love life away from the cameras.

In March 2021, Jane’s teenage lover and partner of 13 years, Walter ‘Eddie’ Rothe, tragically passed away at the age of 67, after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Jane met her childhood sweetheart again by chance, while she was working on Loose Women and Eddie was doing an appearance nearby with The Searchers on This Morning. On her nerves at seeing him after 27 years apart, she told the Mirror: “I almost had to be dragged to see him. But then it was, ‘Oh my God! Big smiles’ and he lifted me off the floor and said, ‘Where have you been?'”

They couple remained together for more than 12 years, but sadly never married as Eddie tragically died on March 26, 2021. Jane opened up about her loss on Loose Women, crediting her work as her “‘saviour” throughout her “devastating” grief. She then expressed thanks for her loved ones, adding, “It is the support and the network that I have around me that has helped me through. I couldn’t have done it without the people around me.”

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment on this story.
