Kate ‘should not’ accept olive branch from Meghan as Sussexes reach out – poll results

Meghan Markle has reportedly extended an olive branch to Kate Middleton, as sources claim the Duchess is ‘desperate’ to heal the rift – and we asked Mirror readers what they thought

Meghan Markle is reportedly “desperate” to end the long-running feud with Kate Middleton, as sources claim she is “ready” to heal the rift – and we asked Mirror readers what they thought of the news.

The Duchess allegedly reached out to the Princess of Wales in the build up to Trooping the Colour, where Kate made her return to the spotlight. This comes after Prince Harry detailed the strained relationship between the pair in his tell-all memoir Spare, where he revealed a disagreement over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.

However, sources at Closer have claimed that Meghan would “love nothing more” than to move past the dispute, adding: “Meghan’s desperate to come across as the bigger person and end this feud between them – appearing like some sort of royal saviour could only do her image good.

“And, despite all their bad blood, her heart does go out to Kate – she can only imagine how hard this situation must be for her. Meghan has made it clear she’d love nothing more than to move past all the nonsense and find a way towards healing for everyone’s sake. She’s ready to let the anger and bitterness go.”

They continued: “Of course, it’s not really up to her and Harry, all they can do is continue to reach out and offer olive branches.” The Sussexes have distanced themselves from the Firm after stepping down from royal duties in 2020, but sources have suggested that repairing relationships would be a “huge relief”.

We asked Mirror readers if they would like to see Meghan and Kate bury their feud, and a whopping 80 percent said ‘No’. Around 4,851 people took part in our poll, and a hefty 3,866 said they would not want the pair to restore relations.

Voicing their thoughts in the comments section, one user penned: “The last thing Catherine needs is the Sussex’s trying to play the sympathy card. As the saying goes To little To late.”

A second echoed: “No I do not think Catherine should forgive Meghan after all they have put up with allegations via Oprah, their podcasts, their tv interviews, Apple, and the rest that’s come from that side! No Catherine should not forgive them, Markle caused this, she didn’t!”

“If Meghan is REALLY, REALLY desperate to mend relationships with Princess Catherine, Meghan needs to APOLOGISE publicly and genuinely to Princess Catherine and Prince William for ALL she has said on media about the Royal Family in totality,” agreed another.

A fourth continued: “Catherine will rightly never trust her or Harry again. This is just Megs trying to attach her name to Catherine’s popularity,” while another posted: “No I wouldn’t trust Meghan, she’d be up to something and it wouldn’t be good. Keep them apart.”

Meanwhile, 14 percent said they would be in favour of Meghan and Kate moving on from their dispute, as one user commented: “I think there have been faults on both sides, it’s not all one way traffic! I think the feud should be squashed!”

A second shared: “Time that the olive branches that have been offered should be accepted,” while a third penned: “I think the majority would like there to be peace between the ‘feuding’ parties.”

Others have slammed the Firm for their treatment of the Sussexes, as another posted: “Princess Meghan and Prince Harry deserve a sincere apology before any progress can be made.”

While a second added: “Harry welcomed Kate when she joined the RF like a sister. Such a shame Princess Meghan wasn’t accorded the same courtesy when she joined the RF.” Only six percent selected the option ‘Other’ in our poll.

Please note that the poll is still live, so these results may change after the article has been published.
