Jayne Torvill admits she was surprised by Ekin-Su’s controversial Dancing On Ice outfit

Jayne Torvill admits she was personally surprised to see Ekin-Su in her controversial Dancing On Ice bikini-inspired outfit, which sparked a string of Ofcom complaints

Jayne Torvill admits she was “surprised” by Ekin-Su’s Dancing On Ice outfit, which sparked over a 100 Ofcom complaints.

The Love Island star skated for the first time two weekends ago, where her bikini-inspired outfit as she performed to Britney Spears’ track Toxic sparked a string of complaints to the TV regulator. Ekin-Su admitted she was “really upset” by the backlash to her performance and her outfit, and had questioned what she had done wrong.

Now Dancing On Ice judge Jayne has admitted she was surprised by the outfit choice, but praised Ekin-Su for putting all into her performance and said she was the right person to go through following the skate-off.

Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women today, Jayne and Chris discussed her outfit, before she said: “I was a little bit surprised, I have to say, but it was in keeping with the song and the Love Island connection so I see how that was.

“But she’s a really lovely girl and she’s taken it all on board. And in her skate off, she definitely deserved to go through.”

Ekin-Su had previously admitted she was “really upset” over the backlash to her performance.

She said: “I’m not gonna lie, I was really upset over the past two days. I questioned myself and what I had done wrong.

“[I said to myself] you know what, stop this crying Ekin. You are a strong woman, take on the notes from the judges, work hard and I really wanted to prove myself. We’ve been working really hard and I am here today.”

Following on from the controversy, Dancing On Ice judge Oti Mabuse defended Ekin-Su’s outfit, adding: “If I had that body, I would wear less all the time. It is so exciting to be part of a show that gets complaints.

Kimberly Wyatt – who appeared on the show last year and made it all the way to the final – admitted it can be hard for women on the skating show, adding to The Mirror in defence of Ekin-Su: “It’s very difficult for a woman on that show, especially if you go any place that’s sexy. The viewers just don’t quite like it. They don’t connect with it. I’m so glad she did – you could tell she felt good in her skin.”
