Loose Women was full of surprises on Wednesday’s episode as Andrea McLean returned to the show four years after quitting and dropped comeback news.

During the latest instalment, the hit ITV chat show celebrated the 40th anniversary of Cilla Black’s hit show, Surprise Surprise, which first aired in May 1984. As such, the hour-long show had plenty of surprises in store for the panellists, audience and viewers at home. Throughout the episode, host Christine Lampard revealed that a former Loose Women star would be surprising everyone on air with some news and kept dropping hints.

Eventually, at the end of the episode, Andrea, 54, was revealed as she surprised everyone by returning four years after she quit back in 2020. Andrea, who was one of Loose Women’s longest serving stars, also dropped some news as she revealed that she would be returning to Loose Women again in September for the show’s 25th anniversary in a special milestone.

It comes as Loose Women star Andrea teased a return to the ITV daytime show, four years after she quit, earlier this year in April. The presenter spent more than 20 years on TV before she took a break from the spotlight to focus on her mindset app, This Girl Is On Fire, as well as her Mastering Midlife podcast with her husband, Nick Feeney.

Fans were stunned when Andrea announced she was walking away from Loose Women in 2020 after making her debut on the award-winning show back in 2007. However, she revealed earlier this year that she’s “open” to a return as she lifted the lid on her relationship with her former co-stars.

Addressing rumours she may be back with the Loose ladies this year, she said at the time: “I’m open to anything… for the past few years my answer has always been no. However, since coaching others, the door in my head has creaked open a bit…and suddenly people are knocking on the door again, which is nice. So yes, I could be coming back to screens this year, but I’m not saying any more than that!”

Andrea spent years sitting alongside Loose Women panellists, including Coleen Nolan, Denise Welch and Janet Street-Porter and said that while she still speaks to some of her former colleagues, she doesn’t keep in touch with all of them. Asked whether she’s still pals with the presenters, she told Woman’s Own magazine: “Yes, not everyone, in the same way that everybody doesn’t keep in touch with everyone they’ve worked with. I saw Brenda [Edwards] last week and Denise [Welch]. There are a few of us [who stay in touch]. I don’t go out very often, but I did attend Linda Robson’s book launch in London recently, she’s brilliant!”
