Prince Harry has opened up about the last time he spoke to his mother Princess Diana and shared his biggest “regret” from the conversation, which took place hours before her tragic death
Prince Harry has admitted he’s filled with “regret” over the last time he spoke to his mother Princess Diana.
Prince Harry has confessed to feeling “regret” over his last conversation with his late mother, Princess Diana. The beloved Princess of Wales tragically lost her life on August 31, 1997, in a fatal car accident in Paris, which also claimed the lives of her partner Dodi Fayed and their driver Henri Paul.
Prior to the devastating crash, Diana had a phone call with Harry and his brother Prince William, which didn’t go as Harry had hoped. In his memoir ‘Spare’, he shared: “I wished I’d dug deep, told my mother all the things weighing on my heart, especially my regret over the last time we’d spoken on the phone.
“She’d called early in the evening, the night of the crash, but I was running around with Willy and my cousins and didn’t want to stop playing. So I’d been short with her. Impatient to get back to my games, I’d rushed Mummy off the phone.”
He added: “I wished I’d apologised for it. I wished I’d searched for the words to describe how much I loved her.”

Elsewhere in ‘Spare’, Harry revealed his yearning for his mother following her untimely death.
He also expressed that any comparisons between Diana, Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa felt “wide off the mark”. While acknowledging these comparisons were made out of love, he described his mother as “simply indescribable”, reports the Mirror.
Prince Harrys spoke about remembering the infectious “devastating smile” and “vulnerable eyes” of his beloved mother, Princess Diana, highlighting how her passion for clothes, sweets, and music are cherished memories that he and estranged older brother William hold dear.
The Duke of Sussex continues to follow his mother’s legacy and often speaks of her with affection. In a homage at a Sentebale charity event in April, Harry honoured Diana’s influential work in the battle against HIV and AIDS, especially her focus on young people whose futures are compromised by the disease.
