Exclusive: Nadia Sawalha hits out at ’embarrassing’ Loose Women guest following ITV show drama

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha branded Prime Minister Rishi Sunak an ’embarrassment’ after he was grilled on the ITV show last week

Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha shared her thoughts on Rishi Sunak’s trainwreck interview on the ITV programme last week.

The 59-year-old wasn’t one of the panellists when the Prime Minister made an appearance on the show last Thursday. Instead, Kaye Adams, Janet Street-Porter, Judi Love and Jane Moore. He originally appeared on the show to discuss the push for strict sex education bans on children but things quickly took a sour turn.

Not only was he accused of hating pensioners by Janet, but he was also interrogated over starving children in the UK, universal credit and poverty. Rishi squirmed as Judi questioned him about the increase in violence and NHS staff that were queuing to use food banks. The PM kept deflecting the questions and discussed the Online Safety Act being passed.

Fans praised the panellists for interrogating the uneasy politician while Loose Women star Nadia slammed him for being an “embarrassment” and deflecting on more serious and urgent issues by focusing on sex education bans. Speaking to Mirror Online while campaigning for the pioneering cancer drug Enhertu to become available in the UK via NHS England, the writer and presenter admitted to feeling ‘politically homeless’ at the moment.

“From everything I’ve heard from people, he did his usual. None of [the politicians] answer questions,” she explained. “I think this whole thing about sex education is like… What are you talking about? What on earth are you talking about? Why are you throwing us red meat to get people to get annoyed about kids’ education when we are in such a mess?”

Nadia went on to list just a few examples of important things that have been a tremendous issue in the country. She said: “Kids’ mental health waiting lists, NHS waiting lists, an economy that is insane. The behaviour one some of your MPs and their language is shocking. I mean, we’re talking about sex education? Please. He’s an embarrassment.

“Oh my god, I just feel politically homeless at the moment. I really do. I don’t know where to turn. I don’t know. It’s just a mulch, isn’t it? This going around and munching it all up and spitting it back out. I just don’t have any faith any more. It’s just heartbreaking.”

Rishi received a lot of backlash over the sex education ban for pupils under nine, which was deemed as “irresponsible”. From Year 5 onwards, primary school teachers will focus on sex from a scientific standpoint only. Under the new guidance, which will be legally binding, parents will have a right to see what their children are being taught. Ministers will also insist that gender identity is a “contested subject” that should not be taught.

Meanwhile, Nadia has been campaigning with best friend Hannah Gardener, who is living with secondary incurable breast cancer, to raise awareness of the importance of the drug Enhertu. Enhertu is the first licensed targeted treatment for patients with HER2-low breast cancer, that cannot be removed surgically or has spread to other parts of the body, also known as metastatic breast cancer.

It could give people both more time to live and more time before their disease progresses.
