Ex-Loose Women star Carol McGiffin addresses future with husband after wedding ‘upset’

Former Loose Women star Carol McGiffin and Mark Cassidy decided to marry in secret 10 years into their relationship

Former Loose Women panellist Carol McGiffin is in talks with her husband Mark Cassidy about renewing their vows.

The couple met back in 2008 at the Loose Women wrap party when Mark was 26 and Carol was 48.

10 years later, they decided to marry in secret in Bangkok, Thailand, which “upset” a few loved ones.

Addressing her relationship in a new interview, Carol, 64, has shared that while their 22-year age gap can “bother” her at times, they remain happily married and have proved the haters wrong.

She told Woman’s Own Magazine: “Initially, the papers were saying, ‘Give it five minutes’ so it’s nice to be able to prove everybody wrong.

“But it’s not about that, it has nothing to do with anybody else. We’re still here.”

On renewing their vows, she added: “We have talked about it. When we tied the knot, it was very under the radar.

“Quite a few people were upset that we got married without them!”

Carol’s latest words come after she previously slammed those who renew their vows as being “ridiculous”.

She told The Sun: “I don’t know why people do that. It’s so ridiculous.

“We didn’t really do it properly. For the anniversary, we always go out, but hopefully we are going to be back to the place where we got married, which is Bangkok.

“It will be just us two like it was at our wedding, and no one else there. We never would have done it otherwise.”

The pair have been living in the south of France since 2016, after they fell in love with a property listed online.

While on Loose Women, the broadcaster would commute twice a month for the show in London, up until her departure.

Carol decided to take a step back from the ITV programme last year after claiming she didn’t fit in.

She first appeared on the show from 2000 until her first departure in 2013, and then again from 2018 until 2023.

“Someone, somewhere will be offended by absolutely everything. I’d rather not be on a show that panders to that. It’s boring,” she recently shared.

“And I won’t be told what I can or can’t say.”
