Denise Welch shows jaw-dropping effect alcohol had on her face amid 11-year sobriety

Loose Women star Denise Welch has detailed how much she’s changed on her sobriety journey, having ditched the booze over 11 years ago

Denise Welch has shared a jaw-dropping look at the effect alcohol had on her appearance before she decided to quit booze for good over a decade ago.

The Loose Women star, 64, took to her Twitter page to share a side-by-side snap of herself before and after she had her last-ever drink.

She shared a before and after comparison of her face as she celebrated 11 years sober.

Denise went on to credit loving husband Lincoln for helping her to reach the milestone – who got sober with her.

“11 yrs sober today!!” she wrote alongside the snap. “My greatest achievement apart from Matty and Louis.

“Thank you to my husband @LincolnTownley for everything [red love hearty emoji]”

Scores of fans rushed to reply to Denise’s tweet, congratulating her on her huge achievement.

“Look at you aging backwards. Congratulations one beautiful day at a time,” one penned.

“Fantastic. It’s often a battle and knowing that I’m always so impressed at a success such as yours,” another tweeted.

Denise has previously told how alcohol “ruined [her] life for 15 years” prior to her going sober.

She opened up about her alcoholism and how it can impact life, relationships and mental health.

Denise tweeted: “Alcohol is the most dangerous drug because it’s legal.

“It is a major cause of anxiety & depression and yet we celebrate it everywhere.

“It ruined my life for 15 yrs.”

She previously told the Mirror that what she’s gained from sobriety means she’s never tempted to start drinking again.

“I don’t have temptation any more because of what sobriety has given us,” she revealed, “Our careers and our families.

“That is so much more important.

“It’s not something we miss anymore.”

Denise has also, in the past, been very open about her battles with depression.
