Coronation Street’s Daisy Midgeley quits after 4 years as she becomes fifth star to leave in weeks

Coronation Street star Charlotte Jordan, who plays Daisy, has quit the popular soap, becoming the fifth star to leave the cobbles in recent weeks

Coronation Street star Charlotte Jordan, who plays barmaid Daisy Midgeley, has quit the ITV soap and is expected to leave the series later this year. Charlotte joined the cast of the soap in 2020, but has announced that after four years she has decided to “explore other opportunities.”

Charlotte said: “My time at Coronation Street is something I’ll always cherish. After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.”

A source told The Sun that “Charlotte has loved her time on the cobbles but is young, ambitious and hungry to see what else is out there for her. She told bosses last April that her next contract would be her last, giving them a year to craft an exciting exit storyline. She’s still filming now and her final scenes will play out in early summer. She’s adored by cast and crew and will be hugely missed.”

Charlotte won a soap award for her portrayal of an acid attack victim
During her time on the cobbles, Charlotte’s character Daisy has been central to a blackmail plot, and was stalked by Justin Rutherford, which culminated in Daisy and Ryan being the victims of an acid attack. Both the Katie Piper Foundation and Acid Survivors Trust International supported the production team when the scenes were filmed, and provided information on the long term impact of an acid attack.

At the time, soap boss Iain MacLeod said: “We were keen to show the long-term reality for people who are subjected to this kind of attack. It is something we might often read about in the papers but perhaps don’t fully understand, in terms of the depth and variety of effects it can have. As well as the medical impacts, we explore the social fallout of having your appearance profoundly changed, both in terms of your own ability to process that and how the wider world reacts to you.”

Coronation Street
Charlotte has had some intense storylines since she joined Coronation Street
“The story will at times be heartbreaking but we felt it was an important one to tell.”

Following the stalking storyline, Charlotte won the British Soap award for Best Dramatic Performance in 2023.

After the New Year departure of actress Helen Worth, who played Gail for 50 years, four more actors are due to leave in 2025, alongside Charlotte. Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker, Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, and Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster) are all set to leave in the coming months, while Luca Toolan, who played Mason Radcliffe, has already departed.

Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, is also due to leave, but only temporarily. Lucy announced that she is expecting a baby, so Bethany will be written out for a time while Lucy is on maternity leave.
