EastEnders actress Anita Dobson has issued a huge health update on her husband Brian May as the Queen rocker had a terrifying stoke last year that came ‘out of the blue’
Anita Dobson has issued a major health update on her music icon husband Brian May following his terrifying stroke.
The Queen star, 77, said in September that “out of the blue” he suddenly lost control of his left arm, and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. where he was diagnosed with a stroke. He was later told to take it easy and made the announcement himself with a social media video.
Actress Anita, who has been married to Brian for 24 years, has revealed he is in a “stable” condition. She also gave an insight into how they spent Christmas together as Brian proved he was up for the celebrations. The EastEnders star revealed they were able to take their 15 grandchildren to Lapland.
Giving a health update, Anita told the Sun: “Brian is stable now. Brian has never been happier since we moved. For me it’s been a curveball as I’m a London girl born and bred so going to the countryside to a house that needs a lot of work was a bit of a shock. To see what it has done to Brian…he loves it.”

She revealed he has been taking things easy by feeding the birds and animals that come into their garden. Brian has also taken up cooking. Anita shared they are “just chilling at the moment” and “spending time at home”. The health scare has also changed her outlook on life as she insisted: “You have to live every day as if it was your last.”
The ‘We Will Rock You’ legend took to Instagram to share the news with his followers last year: “I hope you’re all well out there. I’m here to bring you first of all some good news. I think the good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days and I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they called it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden – out of the blue – I didn’t have any control over this arm so was a little scary.”
He also heaped praise on the medical team at Frimley Hospital in Camberley, Surrey, for their excellent care: “I have to say I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital where I went blue lights flashing… the lot. Very exciting!” In 2020, Brian also suffered a heart attack, and fears he “could have died” at the time, having initially thought he had simply suffered a gardening injury.
He subsequently had his heart fitted with three stents, which are tiny tubes that hold open blocked arteries, that helped him recover. Speaking in September about his “minor stroke”, he requested fans not contact him with well-wishes. “I really don’t want sympathy,” he said. “Please don’t do that because it’ll clutter up my inbox and I hate that.”
