Brenda Edwards supported by Loose Women pals as she marks anniversary of son Jamal’s tragic death

Brenda Edwards put on a brave face as she marked the second anniversary of her son Jamal Edwards’ death on Tuesday, with the Loose Women star admitting his passing still feels ‘so raw’

Brenda Edwards celebrated the life of son Jamal Edwards on the second anniversary of his death on Tuesday.

The Loose Women panellist, 54, wore a sparkly jumpsuit with a plunging neckline that nipped in with a belt at the waist for an event honouring the life of her late son in London. The former X Factor star teamed the navy blue number with a silver choker necklace and a pair of hoop earrings.

Smiling for some photos inside the venue, Brenda was joined by a host of guests, including her co-star Linda Robson. Her son, music producer Jamal, tragically died after a cardiac arrest brought on by taking cocaine and drinking alcohol in February 2022 at the age of 31.

Taking to social media on the same day, Brenda paid tribute to her late son and admitted she wishes she could “rewind time” to have him back. The brave star was supported by Loose Women stars past and present, with Kate Thornton telling Brenda: “Sending so much love to you. He is greatly missed and never more so than by you, his incredible mum.”

Music mogul Jamal, who had an MBE, was a music entrepreneur, DJ and was the founder of the online music platform SBTV. His death was announced on 20th February 2022, with a coroner later concluding that the young star had consumed cocaine and alcohol before later dying from a heart attack.

Writing alongside a collection of pictures of her late son on Instagram on Tuesday, Brenda penned: “@jamaledwards the pain of 2 years ago today still feels so raw. I miss you so much baby, I keep wishing I could rewind time to have you back with me, this hurt is indescribable, I will celebrate your incredible life and legacy now and forevermore . Love you always Jamms #angelinheaven.”

“Thinking of you today. Sending you love and the tightest hug,” Ruth Langsford commented underneath Brenda’s moving post, with Coleen Nolan adding: “Love you B … we are all here for you and Jamal will always be with you!!” Katie Piper, another of Brenda’s Loose Women co-stars added four blue heart emojis, while a fan told the star: “Can’t believe it’s been two years already. He’s never forgotten and his presence is missed. Thinking of you and T x.”

Last year, Ed Sheeran paid an emotional tribute to Jamal during a heartrending performance at London’s Eventim Apollo. The Shape of You singer, who was close friend with Jamal, broke down on stage in May as he confessed he was “I’m still not over it, and I don’t want to be.”

During the show, Ed remembered the last time they were at the venue together, watching a comedy show. Overcome with emotion, he said: “The first time I ever played this song, I cried when I introduced it, I cried at the start, I cried at the end and… I’m going to cry now.” In an emotional moment, the singer wiped away tears before sharing that singing these songs felt “cathartic”.

The dad-of-two shared that he feels songs are his until he “put them out there” and then they belong to everyone. Fans share them and “relate” to the music. Ed then spoke about how “s*** just happens” when you grow up and “everyone goes through it”. Before singing Life Goes On, he said: “I felt like when Jamal passed away that I wanted the world to just stop, like it did when the Queen died.” He confessed he “didn’t feel ready” and still doesn’t, saying people expect you to be sad for a bit and then get over it. “I’m still not over it, and I don’t want to be,” Ed admitted, talking about his sadness after his friend Jamal’s death.
