BBC Question Time viewers all have same complaint moments into ‘petty’ show

BBC Question Time fans were left fuming as they tuned into the latest instalment of the current affairs show and claimed that the panel were discussing ‘petty’ things

Question Time viewers were all echoing the same sentiment just moments into the latest episode of the BBC show.

On Thursday, October 3, Fiona Bruce took the helm in Dundee to tackle the nation’s most burning political issues with a panel of experts and politicians.

The line-up included Scottish Government’s Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth MSP, Secretary of State for Scotland Ian Murray MP, Shadow Energy Minister Andrew Bowie MP, Deputy Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats Wendy Chamberlain MP, and journalist Iain Macwhirter.

In the spotlight was Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has been under fire for accepting £6,000 worth of perks from affluent benefactors since he assumed office, which he is now repaying.

His list of repayments features six passes to a Taylor Swift gig, four entries to horse racing events, and a deal for borrowing designer attire. The PM has expressed that it was “right” for him to foot the bill for these presents, reports the Express.

An audience member lambasted Mr Starmer, remarking: “It’s fascinating for me how much honesty goes on at the Government when it comes to gifts, because these are personal gifts as far as I can see.”

“It’s only Keir Starmer that’s wearing the suits. It’s only him going to the Taylor Swift concerts.”

Ian Murray, the Labour MP for Edinburgh South, was swift to defend, asserting: “there is no dishonesty here,” and continued: “There is no lawbreaking here. This is all transparent on the public register.”

The audience member shot back, questioning whether the issue affected the Labour leader’s tax returns, before landing a blow by saying Sir Keir is aware of every penny she has.

However, the topic choice didn’t sit well with viewers. One tweeted: ” Are we still talking about Keir Starmer’s money/spending? Honestly, I do not care. There are BIGGER issues I’d rather hear being discussed. This feels petty…#bbcqt.”

Another viewer chimed in, “Why are we discussing Keir’s sleeve when there are thousands of innocent women and children being butchered by Israel under the guise of self defence? ? #bbcqt.”

A third viewer expressed frustration, “#bbcqt Meanwhile the middle east is a powder keg waiting to set the world on fire but Nooooooooo let’s bang about Taylor Swift tickets.”

A fourth person commented, ” Hadn’t heard such a ludicrous amount of hand wringing in a long time….it is obvious that politicians will accept hospitality and gifts at times and the real issues are 1) Is it publicly declared and 2) Is it lawful? Everything else is froth and nonsense. #bbcqt.”
