Wrestling analyst Dave Meltzer critiqued LA Knight’s promo style, saying it imitates The Rock too much.

"You're a fr***n copy of The Rock": Industry Expert Claims Dwayne Johnson's Return Has Jeopardized Another WWE Star's Career But Fans Disagree

In WWE, a world where personality is as important as in-ring skills, LA Knight has emerged as a rising star. Known for his catchy promos and undeniable charisma, Knight seemed poised to make it big. But according to wrestling analyst Dave Meltzer, Knight now faces an unexpected obstacle – the return of legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Dave Meltzer pointed out this shift in perspective on Wrestling Observer Radio. He noted that Knight’s promo initially generated a lot of buzz. But with The Rock back on the mic, Knight feels like a copycat now.

However, fans are not in the same line as Meltzer and believe the crowd still goes for  LA Knight.

LA Knight Faces Unexpected Challenge: The Return of The Rock

Wrestling analyst Dave Meltzer’s critique of Knight’s recent promo on WWE SmackDown has sparked discussions. Meltzer pointed out striking similarities between Knight’s delivery and that of The Rock.
You know LA Knight is obviously very, very popular but when he came out and did this promo, all I could think of is man, you’re a fr****n copy of The Rock,” Meltzer remarked. (Via @Cultaholic)

The return of The Rock to the WWE scene has undoubtedly shifted the dynamics for Knight. Previously, Knight garnered attention with his dynamic promos, eliciting fervent reactions from the audience. However, Meltzer pointed out that Knight’s similar style now feels like a mere imitation with Dwayne Johnson back on the microphone.
When Rock wasn’t there it was like he was great and the people were going nuts and they still were reacting well to him but it really felt watching this LA Knight promo to me completely different from a month or two months ago when The Rock wasn’t around and he’s doing this stuff and he was like the hot thing. And now it’s like he’s not the hot thing, and you’ve got the real Dwayne Johnson doing the promo and you’ve got this guy trying to do the same type of promo. And again, he’s got a great delivery too but you just can’t do it. You can’t do a Rock promo right now without looking real second-rate,” Meltzer said.
The Rock’s unparalleled career and captivating stage presence make it a daunting task for any current wrestler to match his energy. Even though Knight’s delivery skills are commendable, they seem overshadowed when compared to the iconic Rock.

Fans Find it Hard to Agree with Dave Meltzer

LA Knight made his in-ring debut at NXT in March 2021, and he is undoubtedly a charismatic and great performer. He became so popular because of his nature of bringing authenticity to his character.

And, people believe that when he is on the mic, he just delivers his best, though not like John Cena or The Rock, obviously. Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disagreement with what Meltzer has commented on him being overshadowed by The Rock.

Fans think he has the gift of taking audiences’ attention, which is not a cup of tea for everyone. He got the mic skill on how to crack things in promo cut, and apart from that, he has good physics and moves that make a great wrestler.
