Taylor Swift is revealed to be related to an iconic American poet ?

Taylor Swift fans have long praised the singer-songwriter for her powerful lyrics – but could being a wordsmith be in her blood?

Well, genealogy network Ancestry has now revealed that the 34-year-old is in fact related to iconic American poet Emily Dickinson, according to Today.

Taylor, who is preparing to release her latest album The Tortured Poets Department, is said to be sixth cousins, three times removed with the 19th century writer.

Dickinson, who died in 1886, was celebrated for her departure from literary conventions and challenge of societal norms.

Taylor Swift fans have long praised the singer-songwriter for her powerful lyrics – but could being a wordsmith be in her blood?

Ancestry told the outlet: ‘Swift and Dickinson both descend from a 17th century English immigrant (Swift’s ninth great-grandfather and Dickinson’s sixth great-grandfather who was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut).

‘Taylor Swift’s ancestors remained in Connecticut for six generations until her part of the family eventually settled in northwestern Pennsylvania, where they married into the Swift family line.’

The Bad Blood singer had previously made reference to the legendary poet during her acceptance speech after winning the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International in 2022.

She revealed one of the secrets to her songwriting process was sorting lyrics into three ‘dorky’ pen-themed categories – affectionately titled Quill Lyrics, Fountain Pen Lyrics and Glitter Gel Pen Lyrics.

Delving deeper into the Quill Lyrics group, the popstar said it evoked words and phrasings that are ‘antiquated.’

‘If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain, that’s me writing in the Quill genre,’ she quipped.

Swifties had previously speculated that Taylor’s ninth studio album Evermore was inspired by the poet since it was released on her birthday – December 10.

The title of the 2020 release also had echoes of one of Dickinson’s most well-known works titled One Sister Have I In Our House.

The final word of the poem seemed eerily similar to the album title as the piece concludes: ‘From out the wide night’s numbers — Sue forevermore!’

It comes after Taylor made an exciting announcement during her Eras Tour concert in Singapore on Sunday.

She revealed the final version of her upcoming album, The Tortured Poets Department, will include a bonus track titled The Black Dog.

In front of over 50,000 fans for her second night at the Singapore National Stadium, she unveiled the fourth and final version of her forthcoming album — which will be released on April 19.

The album artwork appeared behind her onstage while she sat at her piano, according to posts shared by concertgoers on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The previously unseen album artwork was a black-and-white photo of the multi-Grammy winner — who was recently in Sydney — with one hand running through her hair and another caressing her face.

Later, the Cruel Summer hitmaker took to Instagram to extend the news to her 282 million fans and followers.
