Real reason Princess Beatrice recycled late Queen’s dress for her low-key royal wedding

Cast your mind back to 2020 – we don’t mean banana bread and dalgona coffee, but Princess Beatrice’s wedding.

The eldest daughter of Prince Andrew married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi at Windsor in front of just a few family members on July 17, 2020, with strict social distancing measures in place.

With the Queen in attendance before her sad demise, the wedding was a secret affair, with the ceremony taking place at St. James’s Palace followed by a reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

At the wedding, Beatrice paid a sweet tribute to her grandmother, wearing her old gown and tiara to finish the look.

While the gown garnered the praise of royal watchers, commentator Marlene Koenig said that picking the vintage dress was the result of a major mishap.

Beatrice was supposed to wear a different dress for the occasion but given it was during the coronavirus pandemic, designs were halted.

The Queen came to the rescue, accepting Beatrice’s request to wear the original Norman Hartnell evening dress, which was refitted for the bride within three weeks.

The commentator told the Express: “It’s just a thought but her real wedding gown was not finished and got stuck at the designers because of Covid she could no longer work on it. That’s why her grandmother gave her this lovely gown and they were able to refashion it.”

Miss Koenig added: “She didn’t even wear a new pair of shoes, which is unlikely for anyone. It was probably nearly done but the designer couldn’t do anything more, couldn’t finish it, whereas within the bubble they could rework this gown.”

The late Queen’s dresser Angela Kelly completed the outfit with the Queen’s beloved Fringe Tiara – which she inherited from her grandmother, Queen Mary, after she died in 1953.
