Princess Eugenie shared a throwback picture of Zara Tindall at the London Olympics in 2012, which revealed her affectionate nickname.

Princess Eugenie let slip the sweet nickname she has for Zara Tindall, as she paid tribute to cousin’s sporting efforts in a touching Instagram post.

To mark the ongoing Paris Olympics Eugenie shared a throwback from London 2012, when Zara was competing in the equestrian eventing team and won a silver medal.

Eugenie captioned the post: “The Olympics is one of the best things in our world. It’s such a special time watching superhuman athletes represent their countries, bringing people together and inspiring generations.

“Some of my most favourite memories from 2012 was being on the sidelines cheering on our heroes. Not to mention, the best moment of all, watching my family win silver in eventing, goooo Z!”

Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice were at Greenwich Park 12 years ago to cheer on Zara, joined by Prince William, Princess Kate, Prince Harry and Zara’s brother Peter Phillips.

It was an extremely special occasion for the Royal Family, as Zara’s mother (and former Olympian) Princess Anne presented the team with their medals.

Her husband Mike Tindall was naturally also there to support his wife, but it turns out he has his own nickname for her, which is quite similar from ‘Z’.

On an episode of the podcast House of Rugby in 2020, his and Zara’s daughter Lena entered the room where he was recording, prompting him to explain to his co-hosts: “Sorry, Lena’s just on fire at the moment, she’s never quiet.

“I did just send Zed a message, going ‘Shush please,’ so she’s obviously moving from somewhere.”

Another pet name Mike has for Zara is “munchkin”, as he explained on the Total Sport Podcast: “We basically call each other munchkin a lot. I don’t know why that started but it has stuck.”

But Zara revealed she has a saucier name for him, as he turned to her in the interview and added: “I will let Zara decide whether she wants to give away what I am down in her phone as…”

She replied: “When he’s not listening to munchkin or Mikey, it becomes Michael Tindall when there’s no response. He is in my phone as something else and it ends with kitten.”

Mike then cheekily quipped: “You can fill the first word in!”

Zara and Mike have been together since 2003 and tied the knot at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh in July 2011, later welcoming three children together – Mia, Lena, and Lucas.

Zara has been balancing raising her three children with her equestrianism, although she is not going to be representing Team GB in Paris this time around.

The family resides on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire, with Peter Phillips and his daughters Savannah and Isla also living there.
