Prince William had an adorable four-word response when school pupils asked him whether he could “eat with us?”. Last week, the senior royal paid a visit to Cornall and the Isles of Scilly – his first visit since the reveal of his wife’s cancer diagnosis back in March.

After shaking hands with several passers-by, William – who is a father of three – bend down to speak to a group of school children.

One young girl, named Florence, eagerly asked whether the “King’s son is allowed to eat lunch with us”, to which William had an adorable response.

The Prince of Wales repeated the question as he deliberated how best to answer, saying “Yes”, then adding, “is that OK?”

Informed that fish pie was on the menu on Friday, William said: “Fish pie? Delicious. I’ve got a pasty from the shop so I’m going to have one of those later.”

Chatting with the children, who were around a similar age as Prince Louis, William asked them how they had come over to St Mary’s. Knowing they had travelled by boat, he asked: “When the weather’s not nice, is it bad on the boat?”

Another child present also asked William what his favourite colour was, to which he replied, “I’m going to go blue”.

During his two-day visit, William also revealed that his family – including his three children – were “upset” that they couldn’t join him.

Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, did not join their father on his royal engagement, while Princess Kate continues to undergo cancer treatment.

William said: “My family are very upset I’m here without them. The children will kill me if I don’t go home later.” The 41-year-old, who is known locally as the Duke of Cornwall, also made a stop at On the Quay cafe.

Making sure they knew they were’t “all for me”, William reassured the servers that the five traditional pastries that he bought were not all for him.

Since the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis, William has taken some time away from royal duties this year to care for their children. On March 22, Princess Kate shared that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy after post-operative tests revealed an undisclosed form of cancer. In a form of reassurance for royal fans, William noted during his trip that his wife is “doing well”.
