Prince Harry laughs as he breaks silence on Meghan Markle divorce talk

Prince Harry has finally addressed the rumours that he and Meghan Markle are headed for divorce, as the couple have been making a string of solo appearances in recent months

Prince Harry has finally addressed swirling rumours he and Meghan Markle are to divorce.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, engaged in a frank discussion with reporters at the 2024 New York Times DealBook Summit today and, when asked what was actually happening in his personal life, Harry smiles wryly.

Laughing off the speculation, Harry retorted: “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?” He alluded to the numerous unfounded rumours – posted on social media by trolls – regarding his family life.

Harry took the rumours surrounding his marriage with a pinch of salt. Addressing why he and Meghan aren’t often seen professionally together, which fuels split gossip, the royal quipped to a journalist: “Because you invited me, you should have known,” to the crowd’s delight, reports the Mirror US.

While the Prince faced the music at the 2024 New York Times DealBook Summit, Meghan today attended an awards ceremony thousands of miles away in California. She donned more attire from her designer wardrobe, including a pair of black Stuart Weitzman heels

Shifting to a grave note, he confessed: “I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid, I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality. I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people.

“And I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of that as well, and how dangerous it can be over the course of time.”

“The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”

It appears he and the Duchess of Sussex, who previously tackled similar interview questions in 2021, stand united amidst the relentless divorce rumour mill, even though Harry and Meghan have carried out various solo engagements in recent weeks.

The Duchess of Sussex was thousands of miles away in today in California, attending an awards ceremony. It comes as a German documentary entitled Harry: The Lost Prince included damning criticism this week of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, particularly around how their much-publicised visits to poverty-stricken countries sits uneasily with Meghan’s designer wardrobe.

Speaking on the programme, the Mirror’s Royal Editor, Russell Myers, said: “If you’re going to places like Nigeria, like Colombia, which have huge socio-economic problems, some of the world’s poorest communities in these countries, and you’re turning up wearing tens of thousands of pounds worth of designer clothes – it really doesn’t send the right message.”
