Prince Harry heading to UK without Meghan Markle for series of solo engagements

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, will today attend the WellChild awards ceremony in London in his role as the charity’s patron, a position he has held for more than 15 years

Prince Harry will today carry out a number of solo engagements back in the UK – without Meghan Markle – but it’s unclear if he will visit his family.

Duke of Sussex, 40, is to celebrate the achievements and resilience of seriously ill youngsters and their families during the rare UK visit. He will attend the WellChild awards ceremony in London in his role as the charity’s patron, a position he has held for more than 15 years.

And the visit has raised speculation whether Harry and his estranged brother, Prince William, the Prince of Wales will see each other, or if the duke will make a trip to Scotland to spend time with his father the King. It is believed Charles is currently spending time at his Balmoral home.

Harry’s rare visit, again without 43-year-old Meghan, comes as he continues his legal battle against the UK Home Office as he launches an appeal against a High Court ruling dismissing his challenge over a decision to change the level of his personal security when he visits the UK by a Court of Appeal judge. Harry first began the action after the Home Office, the ministry responsible for policing, in February 2020 cut off his right to automatic personal police security while in the UK.

But it is thought he will have some security – either via the police or his private team – at the WellChild awards ceremony at the Hurlingham Club near Fulham, west London, today.

The WellChild awards celebrate the inspiring qualities of some of the country’s seriously ill young people and the dedication of those who keep them healthy and happy, including health, social care and education professionals.

Harry regularly attends the annual event hosted by WellChild, the national charity which provides a nationwide network of nurses, home makeover projects and family support programmes. Before the big event the duke will attend a reception to meet the category winners and their families before joining guests for the private awards ceremony where he will present the Most Inspirational Child (aged four to six) award and deliver a short speech.
