Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been “sucking up to Hollywood royalty” albeit unsuccessfully, according to a royal commentator.
Richard Eden drew comparisons between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s attempts to woo new celebrity friendship and Prince William’s easy relationship with big names such as American pop star Taylor Swift.
Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Palace Confidential, Mr Eden said: “It’s a very different relationship because, essentially, Taylor Swift is here and she wants to show her respect for the Royal Family.
In a way, you could say [she is] paying court to Prince William whereas with Harry and Meghan, it’s the other way round. They’re the ones who seem to be always sucking up to Hollywood royalty.
They thought when they moved to California, ‘we’ll be at the centre of this sort of royal court and everyone will come to see us.’ But it never seems to be working out like that.”

Taylor Swift’s warm encounter with Prince William, which saw her flashing a beaming smile, might just ruffle some feathers over at the Sussex household, an expert has suggested.
PR guru Ryan McCormick weighed in on the situation, hinting that Taylor’s rapport with William could potentially unsettle Meghan Markle.
In an exclusive chat with The Mirror, Mr McCormick remarked: “Because of Taylor’s considerable clout, her friendliness towards William may very well be unnerving to Meghan.
“If Swift publicly endorsed or supported the Duchess in any way, it would immediately bring a cascade of adoring Swifties into her camp.”
