Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have bought a new home in Portugal, which will be just a few hours away from King Charles in the UK by plane.

Meghan Markle is likely to let King Charles spend more time with her children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, when they are staying in their Portugal home.

Prince Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, reportedly brought the holiday home last month, with the new abode giving the family more opportunity to see loved ones in the UK, something the duchess has not done for more than two years.

But will the couple take up this opportunity, and what will it mean for their children’s relationships with royal relatives?

While Meghan remains concerned about security in the UK, with Harry vowing to never let his family visit the country until he feels it is safe to do so, an insider believes having this European property could allow the couple’s children the chance to see their paternal grandfather, something they have rarely done since moving to America in 2020.

The source told Closer: “Now, if it is deemed safe from a security standpoint, it’s likely she’ll give her blessing for Harry to take Archie and Lilibet to see their grandpa, King Charles, at some point.

“And in terms of logistics, having a place in Portugal will make that easier, because Meghan can fly over with the kids without feeling trapped.”

This comes after the King is reportedly trying to create a strong bond with his two grandchildren in America despite being thousands of miles apart.

Royal author Ingrid Seward said: “Family has always been important to the King. He remembers his own somewhat fragmented childhood as his parents were always busy doing their duty. It is a great sadness to him he doesn’t see more of Archie and Lilibet. That is why he will never break ties with Harry.

“He does not want a FaceTime relationship with his son’s children. He wants to know them and be involved with their lives while they are still young enough to be able to learn from his wisdom.”

With the family set to spend more time in Europe, should Meghan let the King spend more time with Archie and Lilibet? Let us know by voting in our poll below.

It is reported that Harry and Meghan will not be spending Christmas in the UK with the King and will instead spend the festive period in their Montecito mansion in California.

This is unsurprising give the ongoing rifts between the duke and some of the Royal Family, including his brother Prince William, following the release of his memoir Spare last year.

Harry has not spent Christmas in the UK with his family since 2018.
