Meghan Markle paid a sweet tribute to husband Prince Harry as they met with children at a mental health summit in Abuja on Friday.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have begun their three-day visit to Nigeria after Harry concluded his UK visit, saying it was “great” to be back.

Their visit is linked to the Invictus Games which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Speaking to children, Harry discussed mental health as he said: “It’s okay, not to be okay.”

Passing the microphone back to Meghan, she said in 10 simple words: “Do you see why I married him he’s so smart.”

She then went on to encourage the children to share their stories, saying that Lilibet once said to her: “Mama, I see me in you.”

Harry and Meghan landed in Abuja this morning as they kicked off their visit with a tour of Lightway Academy, a primary and secondary school in the city.

They were greeted by traditional dancers and met some of the primary schoolchildren.

During their tour the couple visited a kindergarten class where children aged up to five danced and sang – at one point, the visitors got to their feet and joined the class in singing Jump Up, Turn Around.

Meghan said that dancing was Lilibet’s favourite class, adding: “Maybe it’s all the jumping around.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married on May 19, 2018 in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The couple spent two years in the Firm as working royals before stepping down and moving to the US.

Their visit to Nigeria marks the first in a series of new projects for the couple, with Harry praised for discussing mental health with students.

Lightway Academy’s School Director, Joyce Agbese, told the BBC: “He nailed it, basically yes. We want to encourage them to speak out, speak up, express their emotions in the right way.

“When somebody this popular or this famous speaks about mental health it makes people realise that it’s normal and so they don’t have to be afraid to talk about it.”
