Meghan Markle past revealed: Meghan had this strange side job before she met Harry

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is widely known for her acting career, particularly her role as Rachel Zane in the legal drama series “Suits.” However, before achieving fame, she had an unusual side job that many may not be aware of. Prior to her rise to prominence, Meghan Markle took on an unexpected job to supplement her income.

While pursuing her acting aspirations, the 37-year-old Duchess worked as a calligrapher, a skilled craft involving the artistic handwriting of calligraphic lettering. This lesser-known occupation provided her with a source of income during her early days as an aspiring actress. Meghan’s talent for calligraphy allowed her to earn money through various calligraphic projects and commissions.

Despite her current status as a member of the British royal family, Meghan Markle’s journey to success was not without its challenges. Like many aspiring artists and performers, she had to take on alternative jobs to support herself financially while chasing her dreams in the entertainment industry. Her experience as a calligrapher serves as a reminder of the perseverance and determination required to achieve success in highly competitive fields.

The former American actress, Meghan Markle, is widely recognized for her diverse talents, but one particular skill remains relatively unknown. Beyond her acting career and her former lifestyle blog “The Tig,” Meghan possessed a remarkable talent for calligraphy and fancy handwriting.

Interestingly, Meghan had to discontinue her passion project, “The Tig,” six months after announcing her relationship with Prince Harry in 2017. However, her affinity for words extended beyond the digital realm, as she professionally employed her calligraphic skills in the physical world, putting pen to paper.

This lesser-known facet of Meghan’s abilities highlights her versatility and artistic inclinations, showcasing a multifaceted individual with a penchant for creative expression through various mediums.

Meghan’s unusual side hustle revealed

In a 2016 interview with Good Housekeeping, Meghan Markle revealed that she had a unique talent as a professional calligrapher. The Duchess of Sussex used to handwrite invitations and place cards for weddings and events as a side job while pursuing her acting career. When asked about any hidden talents, Meghan told Good Housekeeping, “I used to be a calligrapher for weddings and events — that was my side job while I was auditioning.”

She expressed her appreciation for the art of handwritten notes, stating, “I think handwritten notes are a lost art form. When I booked my first pilot, my dad wrote me a letter that I still have. The idea of someone taking the time to put pen to paper is really special.” Although Meghan may be modest about her artistic abilities, she has written invitations for a string of celebrity clients, showcasing her calligraphic skills.

Prior to her breakthrough role in the TV series Suits, Meghan Markle had a lesser-known job as a calligrapher. Five years before her big break, she was commissioned to create the invitations for the wedding of singer Robin Thicke and actress Paula Patton. Patton later praised Meghan’s work, describing her calligraphy as “flawless.” In an interview with Town and Country magazine, Patton stated, “I just thought Meghan did a beautiful job.” She further appreciated the art form, saying, “It really is a lost art, and it was so nice to create something without a device that doesn’t use a battery or need to be plugged in.”

Meghan Markle has expressed her admiration for the impeccable handwriting skills of her former calligraphy teacher. She recounted being in awe of her teacher’s flawless penmanship, describing it as “truly perfect” and “impeccable.” Markle revealed that she acquired her own calligraphy skills at a young age, attending an all-girls Catholic school where handwriting classes were part of the curriculum. She acknowledged her natural inclination for mastering cursive writing, stating, “I’ve always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well.” Markle’s comments shed light on her early exposure to and appreciation for the art of calligraphy.

Embrace the unexpected paths that life presents, for they often lead to extraordinary destinations. What began as a humble pursuit to sustain oneself during the audition process blossomed into a remarkable journey of artistic expression through calligraphy. This experience serves as a powerful reminder that our true calling may unveil itself in the most unanticipated ways.
