During Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s controversial Netflix series, Meghan made a series of claims about life in the Royal Family but one appeared to be subtly rubbished by the Princess of Wales and another royal at a huge event
It was two years ago that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world once again with their controversial Netflix docuseries.
The six-part series was full of bombshell claims ranging from allegations about Prince William screaming at Harry during the Sandringham Summit and the Duke of Sussex accusing the Palace of leaking his plans to leave the Firm. However, one allegation that piqued the interest of fashion fans was Meghan claiming she purposely opted not to wear bright colours during her time as a royal.
Speaking in the third episode, the 41-year-old explained that her usual colour palette of “camel, beige, white” was a deliberate choice. She said: “There was thought in that. To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same colour as Her Majesty if there’s a group event,” she said. “I wore a lot of muted tones but it also was so I could just blend in. Like I’m not trying to stand out here.”

She also doubled down on the claim in episode five when she explained: “Until that last week in the UK, I rarely wore colour and I never wanted to upstage or ruffle any feathers, so I just tried to blend in. But I wore a lot of colour that week. I felt, ‘Well, let’s just look like a rainbow.'”
The second part of the series dropped on Netflix the same day that the Princess of Wales was holding her annual Christmas Carol Concert – but in a huge show of unity, nearly all of the Royal Family turned out at Westminster Abbey to support her.
And at that event, it seems that Kate along with several other royals turned Meghan’s theory on it’s head with a series of telling sartorial choices. For the concert, Kate opted for a festive deep burgundy coat from Eponine London, which she paired with a matching colour clutch bag and shoes.

However, she wasn’t the only royal wearing the same colour for the Christmas service. William and Harry’s cousin Zara Tindall also wore a coat in the same colour – and even Kate’s daughter Princess Charlotte was in the colour. And although not royal, Kate’s sister Pippa Matthews also sported a coat in the same deep red hue. Meanwhile, when it came to the men William had a burgundy tie, as did Zara’s husband Mike Tindall.
Kate’s Christmas Carol Concert is going ahead again this year with the service reflecting on “how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives”. The princess, who is recovering from cancer after what Prince William described as a ‘brutal’ year, is going ahead with her televised festive event at Westminster Abbey on December 6, Kensington Palace announced.
The princess set her sights on being able to stage the Together At Christmas service in 2024 despite the health challenges she has faced, and it forms part of her gradual return to public duties after finishing chemotherapy treatment in the summer.
