Jason Statham’s Most Dangerous Stunt Wasn’t in ‘Fast X’ or ‘Expendables’: “It’d have been faceplant at 30 mph into the concrete”

Jason Statham and Tom Cruise have two things in common. They both love doing their own stunts, and they have starred in great action films. Between them, they have starred in the Mission: Impossible and The Transporter films, among others.

While it is known that some of Cruise’s best stunts are in the Mission: Impossible films, one has to wonder which film by Jason Statham has the hardest stunt done by him. One would think that the Fast and Furious franchise would probably have it. But that’s not true at all.

Jason Statham Revealed The Film He Did The Most Difficult Stunt Of His Career For

In an interview with Collider, Jason Statham revealed the film he almost lost his life over. Even though he has done high-action stunts in films like Crank and The Mechanic, it was in Transporter 2 that he had to give it his all. He said:

“I did a little jump in the Transporter 2, or a jump from the back of a jet ski onto the back of a bus. It wasn’t a very safe stunt. I shouldn’t have done it, there was no safety wire, but I just did that. I mean, if I’d have missed the back of the bus, it would have been a faceplant at 30 mph into the concrete. Just silly things that I’ve done.”

He also stated another stunt he did that was dangerous and tricky for the movie Crank. The actor was hanging out of a helicopter that was flying high up and didn’t have much space to stand. Statham said:
“I think when we shot Crank, we were hanging out of a real helicopter… we were actually in a helicopter. We’re shooting a fight scene where I was standing on the skids, we have a small pick there. So it was a real stunt, you know, that one was pretty tricky.”

So, The Bank Job star is always up for doing his own stunts even though it might be difficult. In fact, his obsession with doing his own stunts goes back two decades and then some more.

Jason Statham Wants To Do More And More Of His Own Stunts

In a 2003 IGN interview, Jason Statham was asked if he was ever afraid to do his stunts. He stated that he hasn’t been afraid of doing anything and would like to do more than what he is allowed to do. The Fast and Furious star stated:

“I’d do more if they let me. I’ve never really been frightened to do anything. It’s always an issue of safety that sort of prevents me from doing everything. Apart from things like fire burns and stuff that’s completely out of your control, I’m really keen to do any of that stuff anyway.”

Statham did all of his own stunts for all three films that constitute The Transporter trilogy. However, he also understands the risk and injuries that come with it. This acknowledgment of the risks probably makes Jason Statham one of the best and most sensible action stars in the industry.

The Transporter films are available on Amazon Prime Video.
