A PR expert has shared why he believes Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have become so unpopular to the public – and it isn’t down to them being “bad people”.

Although claiming that Meghan and Harry have appeared to learn from their experience of “bad PR”, GoUp’s Edward Coram-James has said that this experience is likely why the pair have become so unpopular.

The expert believes that Meghan and Harry are likely “kind, caring and incredible people” but their failures in communication and branding has attributed to “their fall-from-public-favour”.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, the expert said: “To be fair to the Sussexes, they seem to have learned the lessons from bad PR, and appear to have turned the page. I attribute much of their fall-from-public-favour purely as a reflection of what can happen with bad PR. It does not mean that they’re bad people. For all we know, The Sussexes could be kind, caring and incredible people.

Concluding in a blunt nine-word statement, he added: “It just that they had a bad PR plan.”

Discussing how bad PR can affect people in the public eye, Mr Coram-James added: “But, that’s the thing with PR: if it goes wrong, the public can, fairly or unfairly, decide that it makes you a bad person, where, when it goes right, the public can decide that you’re a good person. Its why communications are so key.”

Although they don’t appear to have a good reputation amongst the older generation, Harry appeals more to the younger generation.

In a new poll conducted by Ipsos, 1,097 British adults – all aged between 18 and 75 – were asked whether they would support Harry if he were to return.

The survey, which was conducted between October 8 and 9, showed that 34 percent said they would support Harry – with 46 percent of the responders being aged between 18 and 35.

Prince Harry is set to return to the UK later this month – his fourth visit to Britain this year.

This visit comes with a poignant reason as the Duke will be attending the annual WellChild awards in London on September 30.

The royal, who now resides in the US, has been a patron for the charity for 16 years and has attended the award ceremony many times. Although she is not expected at the award ceremony this year, Meghan attended alongside her husband in both 2018 and 2019.
