Exclusive: Coleen Rooney finally ready to accept big TV offer after successful I’m A Celebrity test run

Coleen Rooney, who was very narrowly pipped to the post by Danny Jones in Sunday night’s I’m A Celebrity final, is now ‘ready to become one of TV’s biggest stars’

Jungle icon Coleen Rooney is finally ready to launch her TV career – with a big deal waiting for her to sign.

The Scouse star, 38, has long shunned opportunities to appear on the small screen regularly but has seemingly had a change of heart following her stint on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! The mum-of-four is now “ready to become a big star” after a successful “test run”, according to TV insiders.

Coleen, the wife of former England footballer Wayne Rooney, impressed ITV bosses during her time camping alongside the likes of podcaster GK Barry, Oti Mabuse and Tulisa Contostavlos. The down to earth star gained a new fanbase thanks to her humble anecdotes and hands-on approach in camp impressing ITV viewers.McFly singer and guitarist Danny Jones secured his win after receiving 55.2% of the public vote on Sunday night, while Coleen came close to being crowned Queen of the jungle in second place with 44.8%, according to rounded figures shared by the show. But despite not making it all the way to the throne, Coleen could still become the show’s biggest winner.

“Her time on I’m A Celebrity only solidified what the execs already knew – Coleen is a natural on screen,” a TV insider says. “Her authenticity and charm made her an immediate favourite with viewers. She has been approached time and time again to do more TV but now it is going to happen.”

The source adds: “I’m A Celebrity was the test run that ITV wanted to see. ITV has long had their eyes on her for a big role, and now, with her performance as runner-up, they’re ready to offer her one of the most exciting daytime TV slots on the channel. She’s set to become one of TV’s biggest stars. A big deal is certainly in the offing!”

More than seven million people tuned in to watch Coleen narrowly beaten by Danny on I’m A Celebrity on Sunday night, a jump of around half a million over the finale last year, figures reveal – a rise from the 6.6 million viewers who watched TV star Sam Thompson win last year, ITV said.

Speaking via video call to Good Morning Britain on Monday morning, Coleen said she felt ready to take on the show this time as her children were more grown up and she wanted a “challenge”. She described it as an experience she will “never forget” but admitted it was “really hard” at times.

“You what was my fear going in? It wasn’t the trials, it wasn’t the sleeping outside or the critters – it was karaoke and cooking,” she revealed. “And I didn’t have to cook because we had some cooks in there. And the karaoke night, I enjoyed everyone else and I had a singalong, but I stuck to me guns, I don’t do karaoke, so why would I go on a show and think I had to do it?”

Coleen also explained she went in to the jungle for herself and with “no plan”. “What you see is what you get and I think even my campmates were surprised,” she said. “I think they thought: ‘Oh she she lives in a nice house. She’s used to luxury.’ I don’t mind getting stuck in.

“I’m a mum of four boys, we go on trail walks, we go into ponds, we go into lakes, we get dirty. I clean up after them. I’m strong and I don’t mind mucking in and getting busy with things. And the one thing that everyone said to me, and I knew I was going to stick to throughout the jungle, was to stay true to myself.”
