The movie is a sequel to his 2018 flick, The Meg, in which the actor played the role of Jonas Taylor, a rescue diver. Nevertheless, many who watched the original movie are disappointed with its latest sequel, and it has only received 28% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics pointing out its weak screenplay.

One critic wrote on the site:
“Meg 2 promises to deliver over-the-top thrills, but this sequel is as lifeless as its characters, and the payoff at the end is not worth the egregiously long buildup.”
Despite the initial predictions about its failure, the film has done decent business at the box office, though it has earned an underwhelming response from the critics and audience alike. However, Jason Statham’s fans are thrilled to watch him on the silver screen performing nail-biting stunts.
