Duchess Sophie became victim to the fashion police after she visited the La Galerie Dior in Paris after attending the Olympic Games.

The Duchess of Edinburgh wore a Floral-Print Chiffon Midi Dress by Victoria Beckham with a V-shaped neckline but it wasn’t the dress that offended.

The 59-year-old paired the flattering waist-accentuating dress with Penelope Chilvers heeled wedges.

The royal, married to Prince Edward, completed the look with a pair of gold drop earrings by Giulia Barela.

But people couldn’t get over the wedges. Instagram account Royal Fashion Police shared an image of the Duchess’s looks, with users expressing their contempt.

One person said the look was “painfully basic” while another wrote: “hoping some style rubs off”, and “these shoes make no sense at all and they are too white”.

Others were more measured, with one person saying: “The dress is beautiful, Sophie looks lovely. But she has ruined the whole look with those shoes. Totally inappropriate. Fine for popping to the shops but not for this occasion”.

Meanwhile, another said: “The dress is so pretty and Sophie is representing classic British style. The look, paired with sporty footwear, is a bit casual for a private tour by Dior officials. Bet she thoroughly enjoyed it though!”.

Not everyone hated the look, with one fan writing: “The dress is beautiful and really suits the Duchess of Edinburgh. Maybe a more stylish shoe. However I’m sure she was super comfortable and let’s face it, as we get older comfort is what counts.”

But clearly, the Duchess paid no mind to the critics as she rewore the controversial shoes when she posed for a photo with Menna Rawlings, HM Ambassador to France and Monaco, at the grand entryway of L’hôtel De Charost.
