Anne Hathaway Has 1 Weird Thing in Common With Tom Cruise, Reveals Her Drastic Career Choice Before Ending Up in Hollywood
Anne Hathaway did not always want to be an actress
Anne Hathaway has become one of the most well-known names in Hollywood. She has played many different kinds of characters in movies from all genres, establishing herself as a truly versatile actress, long before she had an Oscar to her name. She has been a part of several iconic projects, from playing Catwoman in The Dark Knight trilogy to playing the role of Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries.

Considering just how talented an actress she is, it is difficult to imagine her doing something else. However, that was almost the case, as Hathaway revealed she was committed to pursuing a completely different profession.
Taking a page out of Tom Cruise’s book, who wanted to become a Priest before he became an actor, Anne Hathaway wanted to join the Catholic Church.
Anne Hathaway Wanted To Be A Nun
Recently, Anne Hathaway gave an in-depth interview with Vanity Fair where she went into great detail about her profession and personal life. She talked about her childhood, what made her want to start acting, and alternative professions she almost took up. Speaking on the latter, she confessed that she tends to commit to something in every way possible when she is fond of something.
“I don’t do things by half measure,” she tells me. “When I love something, I imagine myself doing it to the hilt.” Hathaway then revealed that she wanted to become a nun when she was younger, “But it turned out that you can love God without being a nun,”
Growing up in a Roman Catholic household, she had a very deep connection with god. This relationship made her want to pursue something in a similar line of work. The actress revealed that she wanted to be a nun when she was younger. However, she soon learned that she did not need to be a nun to continue having her close connection with God.
Tom Cruise Was Also Interested In Joining The Church
Anne Hathaway isn’t the only person in the film industry who wanted to base their profession on their religious beliefs as Tom Crusie also went down that route. Shane Dempler, a friend of the actor, revealed to the New York Daily Times that the actor was extremely interested in becoming a Catholic Priest when he was younger.

“He had a very strong Catholic faith,” Dempler said. “We went to Mass, spent time in the chapel and enjoyed hearing stories from the priests. We thought the priests had a great lifestyle and we were really interested in priesthood.”
When Cruise was a teenager, he studied to become a Catholic priest at the Franciscan seminary in Ohio. He seemed to have fallen in love with the environment of the Church and the lifestyle it brought about. However, he was kicked out of the school and became one of the most successful actors of all time.
