Singer turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham is celebrating her 50th birthday today (April 17) but she could easily pass for 10 years younger. The Beckhams are bracing for the release of a book that threatens to put their marriage under the spotlight all over again.

Investigative journalist Tom Bower told the Mirror that his latest release The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power contains startling revelations.

Asked whether it featured any new details about David’s alleged affairs, or any new allegations, he said: “Those who want to know about Beckham’s sex life won’t be disappointed.”

Bower previously spent weeks with direct access to Simon Cowell while researching his book on the music mogul. In it, he revealed how Simon had a fling with fellow X Factor judge Dannii Minogue. But this time Bower says he did not even bother requesting access to his subjects.

He said of his reasoning: “One, I knew they would say no. And secondly they have given thousands of interviews and I knew they wouldn’t answer my questions.” He said the pair spent “two long sessions” with a senior member of his team though, which he described as “amicable”.

Despite this, he added: “The Beckhams made sure that quite a lot of people wouldn’t talk to me. But I did find enough people to talk to and got a lot of very interesting revelations. It was a book that surprised me. We think we know everything. But in fact there is an enormous amount we don’t know – which the public will find out.”

Asked whether the book could be damaging for Brand Beckham, Bower said: “It’s an astonishing achievement to have maintained their image despite their ups and downs but whether it’s damaging, the public will decide. What do they really represent? And that’s what the book answers.”

The book, due out in June, was snapped up by HarperCollins. The publisher suggested the book will delve beneath the carefully constructed image of their marriage presented in a recent Netflix documentary, which was produced by the couple. While the show did address claims by Beckham’s assistant Rebecca Loos that she had a four-month affair with him in 2004, critics said it glossed over the details.

News of the book about David, 48, and Victoria comes as she prepares to celebrate her 50th birthday on Wednesday. On Tuesday, she shared an emotional Instagram post thanking David and her children Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19 and Harper, 12, for their “unconditional love and support”.

The Spice Girl declared: “As I get ready to step into 50 (in heels, of course!), I feel so incredibly blessed to have reached this milestone. Earlier this year, she shared a video of herself applying moisturizer from her own skincare brand and later posted a picture from her gruelling workout. Posh wore a black sports bra and black leggings as she explained to fans how she tries to work out five times a week. She said: “MY SKIN HEALTH ROUTINE! Running every day

Posh says a powerful run every single day can keep the years away – and says she then goes through a gruelling PT session.

“I go for a three-mile run every morning and I work out for an hour with a PT, which gives me just enough time to get to the kitchen to puree Romeo’s avocados,” she told Dutch Vogue in June.

Before this, she told ELLE magazine that she loved working out at the start of her day, explaining: “Normally, I wake up, do half my work-out – an hour – wake the kids up, give them breakfast, take them to school, come back, do another hour, quickly shower and then come into work.”

While in the past she has discussed her strict low-carb diet, telling American ELLE previously: “I eat lots of fish, lots of vegetables and a lot of fruit. I work out every day, six or seven days [a week].”

It’s not all about the exercise. After her workout, she enjoys a protein smoothie with fresh fruits and nuts. Then she tells fans she also takes a health shot made of fresh ginger, lemon, black pepper and turmeric.

According to sources a few years ago, VB hoped to pile on a few pounds in order to chase off the ageing process. The star is said to have consulted a doctor to ascertain the best anti-aging treatments.

“Victoria’s visited a surgeon in LA and was told the best way to help slow down ageing is ‘fat – eat more and drink water’,” a source close to the star told Woman magazine. The order to pile on some pounds is said to have delighted retired sportsman husband David.

It appears that the Beckhams stayed on friendly terms with Harry and when he started dating Meghan and they were reportedly eager to make her feel welcome in the UK. In fact, there were reports that Victoria had given Meghan access to her little black book of her favourite hairdressers and stylists in London.

Biographer Tom Bower, who has written a book on Meghan and is now writing one on the Beckhams, claimed in The Sun that the former footballer and fashion designer even offered the now Duchess of Sussex refuge at their Los Angeles home at a time when there was intense media interest about her.

However, the first sign of tension came shortly after this, when reports about Victoria helping out Meghan were published – leaving the Sussexes upset. According to the Mail On Sunday, Harry confronted David with his suspicions in a phone call that left the ex-Manchester United star “furious”.

Harry and Meghan were said to be worried that close friends might be leaking stories about them and were keen to find out who could be behind it. It is alleged that in particular, Meghan suspected Victoria – and Harry called David to repeat the accusation. A source close to the Beckhams told the publication: “David and Victoria went to Meghan and Harry’s wedding and were very supportive when Meghan arrived in the UK.”

Afterwards, the couples seemed to put the ordeal behind them with David and Victoria at St George’s Chapel in Windsor to see Harry and Meghan get married in May 2018. Victoria wore a chic navy dress and hat while David looked smart in a morning suit. Several months later, the royal couple headed off on a tour of Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, which coincided with the 2018 Invictus Games, which were being held in Sydney. Harry and a pregnant Meghan appeared at the opening ceremony of the Games.

Harry is said to have asked David to be an ambassador for the Invictus Games – but things reportedly turned sour when the prince refused to see the former England football captain at the event in Sydney in 2018. It was claimed that the reason Harry was keeping his friend at arms’ length was Meghan – as she feared Victoria was leaking stories about her to the press.

“Having flown half-way around the world, he was perplexed why officials after he arrived at the sporting venue were playing a dance to keep him happy, but away from Harry,” Tom Bower writes for The Sun. “The reason for the distance was Meghan, the newly married Duchess of Sussex. She wanted no competition in the media from David, and especially not from his wife, Victoria.”

But despite the growing tension, Meghan did wear some of Victoria’s designs after this. On Christmas Day in 2018, while pregnant with Prince Archie, she wore a Victoria Beckham navy coat during the royals annual walk to church in Sandringham. And just months later in March 2019, she wore a Victoria Beckham to the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.

Former Suits actress Meghan previously spoke of Victoria in the press and admitted she didn’t have the right ‘silhouette’ to wear designs from the Spice Girl’s fashion label. Meghan, who is 5ft 6in, said: “What I’m starting to learn is, even though things look amazing on the hanger, it doesn’t mean they’re going to look amazing on me. For example I love Victoria Beckham dresses, but I don’t have the long torso to support that silhouette.”

However, she typically keeps her parents and siblings away from the spotlight. Victoria decided to make a rare post to celebrate Father’s Day over the weekend.

Posh Spice opened up on her childhood in the couple’s Netflix documentary – Beckham – last year. However, she was ribbed by David and viewers as she pretended to be ‘working class’. When David urged her to tell the truth about what car her dad drove her to school in, she eventually caved and admitted: “OK. In the Eighties, my dad has a Rolls Royce” as David said: “Thank you!” and left the room.

Fans took note of the moment as they commented under Victoria’s post marking Father’s Day. Last month, Victoria shared another photo with her dad Anthony to mark his birthday as fans couldn’t believe how similar she looked to her sister. She shared a series of photos from their family celebrations as she was joined by 12-year-old daughter Harper and 21-year-old son Romeo. The fashion designer stood alongside her dad and mum Jackie as they beamed in front of a birthday cake.

Victoria looked gorgeous in a pair of white jeans and a navy T-shirt, while son Romeo wrapped his arms around his mum and grandma. Victoria Beckham is said to be “livid” about the release of Tom Bower’s explosive new book, which is based on her marriage to David Beckham.

The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power, written by the investigative biographer, includes many so-called events about their relationship through extensive research, expert sourcing and interviews with insiders.

With the book’s imminent release being just weeks before their 25th wedding anniversary next month, 50-year-old Victoria is said to unhappy with the timing and how it might portray the pair.

A source told Closer Magazine: “Victoria is livid about the upcoming book, because what was supposed to be a landmark date for them is instead going to be reliving the hell that almost broke her.

“Instead of being able to celebrate their marriage and the ups and downs of their journey and the love and life they have built together, it’s all coming under attack.” The Spice Girl is also reportedly “worried” about the book being set up to “bring down” their image and portray them as “work and money obsessed people”.

As part of the many claims in the book, serialised in The Mirror, Tom writes that the pair barely spoke at one point during their marriage and claims they lived effectively separate lives between. He goes on to say that the rough patch happened around eight years ago which led their relationship to become “a distant business” one.

The author additionally claims that their respective PR teams were “fed negative stories” about each other and that David even accused his wife and her publicist of “waging a media war” against him.

Despite these apparent challenges, the pair reportedly remained united for their brand, especially after surviving the turmoil caused by Rebecca Loos’ alleged affair allegations, which David has strongly denied.

According to Bower, serious rifts began to emerge in 2016 when the pair spent significant time apart, with David in Miami and Victoria in London. A year later, he claims that David’s trip to Glastonbury Festival didn’t go to plan when Victoria made an appearance.

Initially, David and a small group of friends, including his best mate Dave Gardner, Lady Mary Charteris and a “glamorous Australian bikini model”, attended the British festival without Victoria, who was due to arrive later from New York.

The group reportedly partied until 5am the night before Victoria’s arrival and according to Tom, one of the group members said: “There was no hassle and a great mood until she landed.”

An eyewitness reportedly said: “With her entourage she headed in a golf buggy through the scruffy campers to the VIP zone. She was furious that her husband had failed to reply to her telephone calls and had dispatched a search party.

“Eventually, David appeared. Within seconds, they were embroiled in a ferocious argument. ‘They looked quite miserable, but they managed to pose for the cameras’.”

The book comes following the release of David’s self-titled Netflix documentary, in which his wife opened up about the great difficulty they faced in their marriage when he was accused of infidelity.

Speaking in his Netflix documentary, she shared: “Up until Madrid sometimes it felt like us against everybody else but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either.

“And that’s sad. I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me. It was a nightmare.”

David has since said that when the pair watched the documentary back, they questioned how they got through such troubles.

He said on the SmartLess podcast: “After everything was over and we watched it finally, that’s the one thing that we looked at each other and was like, ‘I don’t know how we got through the last 27 years, but we did and we have an amazing family, amazing business and we’re happy’.

“And yeah, of course, when you’re with someone for that amount of time, of course you have your ups and downs, everybody knows that and at the end of the day we were lucky because we had each other at those moments.”
